Fallout 3 modding contest

Over on Planet Fallout we're running a modding contest for Fallout 3.

This was meant to run for 1 month but has just been extended until April 30th, 2009.

Therefore - now's the chance to get going and work on your own vision of a Vault for the chance at some free loot, some (peer) recognition and generally a good time tinkering with the GECK.

On to the real deal:

VAULTTEC is calling all budding scientists proficient in modding!

The good guys at VaultTec have asked us to hold this modding contest in an effort to leverage the mod scientists roaming the wastelands in an effort to improve life for all survivors. With that said, VaultTec is looking for the best in these three categories: Personal Vault living for the average dweller, Corporate Vault for the work minded, Government Vault for new world order minded dwellers. So put on your thinking caps and create a type you think shows your best work.

The winner for each of these three categories will receive a brand new nVidia powered e-GeForce 9800 GTX. Contest is for US citizens who are at least 18 years of age. Contest ends April 30, 2009 at 11:59 AM PST.

Requirements:

* Must be created using the official Game Mod Tool Set (GECK)

* Must be created using current official game assets ONLY (nothing else)

* Three cells or under (nothing larger)

Prize Categories - One Grand Prize for Each:

* Personal Vault: Make the most comfortable house for all of your post apocalyptic needs!

* Corporate Vault: Our Corporations deserve the best in doomsday comfort!

* Government Vault: Help us guide the <obliterated> masses in the most comfortable way!

More info can be found here.

Official Rules can be found here.

For questions and comments, write an e-mail to: [email protected].

[On a personal note: if you don't qualify because you're not a US citizen I'd suggest asking a friend in the states to enter the contest in your name. And should you be too young, there's always parents, right?]

Good luck to everybody!

wow price is an already long time outdated graphic card. Thats amazing

You can not even play Fallout 3 with that one with good settings.

Great attitude.

Just remind me how many other contests you've seen where you could win something for your Fallout 3 mod?

Ok sorry, you right, wasn't very kind of me. I just think most people will already have a card as good as this one or mostly a better one. Its good, that you support modding for F3, maybe its just, that I would wish you would support modding something useful and not vault house number xy, why not make a contest for the best Raider Outpost or the best Metro Station, Dungeon. Something, that would be actually fun to play. So now, even your Nr. 1 vault I wouldn't download, coz I am not interested in more vault homes and because it wouldn't give me any new playable content. Well, dont take it personal. Just my 5 cents. New content is still better then no content.

Obviously the swag isn't the real prize. I think people should participate regardless of the physical prize and just do it for the glory.

Besides i find the dwelling mods have been lacking a bit. There are some decent ones out there but nothing yet to make me give up Megaton.

Too bad none US citizens can't participate in exchange that they can't get the card if they win.

What makes you think they're just player home mods?

They are based on the idea of Vaults - personal, corporate & governmental. They could be player homes, but they can be everything else - ranging from the new home of your friendly armed-to-the-teeth bloodthirsty raider to a hidden pocket of pre-war technology to explore to god knows what.

All that's basically given is that it's going to be underground and the original design was made sometime before all hell went loose and the bombs dropped. Whatever happened between now and then is up to the modder and his or her creativity.

Since Nvidia was kind enough to jump in as a sponsor it's going to be graphics cards. It's not exactly like companies are throwing their products at us, begging us to do contests and giving our their goodies... just saying.

Lastly - even if you might not be able to participate in the contest due to being non-US citizen - you can still send in your mod and have a chance at honorable mentions. If this contest goes well and is well received by the modding community chances are we can do this again. Which, IMHO, would be a nice thing for the community itself.

As much as I appreciate the modding support, I would have to agree that the topic for the contest is a bit restrictive. While we are on the topic, the almost-complete "The Refuge" has a newly rediscovered L' Enfant Metro Station in it as part of one of the 6 currently implemented quests. I am always looking for people who interested in quest mods. :)

In terms of the contest, if I finish "The Refuge" quick enough, I will try to implement and submit a Vault 111 (thought to have been destroyed in an earthquake), a sister vault to 101 that is referred to many times during the course of "The Refuge" and the prequel quest "The Secret of the Mole Rat Maze". I am still trying to figure out how it can meet criteria for this contest though...

The good news is that I already have the vault 111 suits made up so at least the people will look smart.

Ok, then I apologize. That sounds better already and maybe I misunderstood it on your contest main page, because there it seems like only vault are permitted. However, I cant join your contest. I am working on a Quest, that will be in parts underground, but will also have a outdoor area and also I always use modding ressources too for my work. But good luck and I hope some people will give some nice dungeons for contest.
