I can't get non-dazip mods to work

I've hundreds of different files in my override folder, some don't work right off the bat, some were in sub folders leading me to believe that they needed to be put into the main override folder to work.

But none of them work, the only mods I can get to work are the dazip one that DA modder installed.

All the tutorials I can find provide no simple answers, so here I am, can you help?

Off the top of my head

Would it help if I try to unzip the file and re-archive it as a zip instead, and then try DA modder?

I'm not at the level of mod knowledge where specific mod talk is of any use to me.

These updaters, the official one and DA modder for some reason, only work with dazip and that dummies article in no way states how you're supposed to get .rar or 7z installed and working, it just says hey look at these package types, good luck with those.

What am I supposed to do with these file types?

Start with something easy - The Cousland morphs or the Morrigan head.

Go to your equivalent of Bioware/dragon age/packages/core/override unzip there the file there. Look to see if it is in game.

Leave mods that are 'challenging' to install (JB3textures) or require the toolset (Tranquil Forehead tattoo) alone until you have some experience with successfully installing mods

You make a lot of sense, I'll do just that, thanks.

And thanks to LadyHonor and Thandal for your replies as well.

Let's see, that "Using Dragon Age Mods" article includes this:

How Are Mods "Packaged"?

Most DA mods are distributed in one of the common compressed forms (".zip", ".rar", ".7z", etc.) You'll need the appropriate utility, ("WinZip", "WinRAR", "7-Zip", etc.) to unpack them in order to have the mod itself. Many players download and unpackage their mods in a separate location (to a folder named "My DA Mods", for example) in order to determine what type they are and what to do with them.

NOTE: See here for a table of various compression formats and their associated utilities; List of file archivers.

Within those compressed files, mods are usually found in one of three formats; ".dazip", ".override", "everything else".

See the next section for a discussion of each of these.

And in the window pop-up window for every Nexus file download it says this:

So not sure how much more help you need...

(I have little sympathy for those who do not read the instructions they've been provided. :armscrossed: )
