Monolithic0117
Definitely your graphics card. An nVidia 8800GT or rather, an 8800GTS would do it nicely.
Qwaxalot
Definitely your graphics card. An nVidia 8800GT or rather, an 8800GTS would do it nicely. I agree with this. EDIT: I also am hearing good things about ATI 4850 & 4870 However I would verify that the acer PSU will support the card. You need to know the wattage and available current on the 12 volt rail. If there's any doubt in your mind upgrade the PSU. Seek QUALITY in the PSU, good reviews, Voltage and current stability etc.
charlie1239
Actuallly I was going to upgrade my wattage to 500watts in the first place because my PC only has 300wats, I was originally going get the Diamond Radeon HD 4650 - 1GB GDDR2, PCI Express 2.0, CrossFireX, (2) Dual-Link DVI, S-Video, Video Card. but I didn't know if that would run oblivion very well
charlie1239
Also I heard that ATI cards run oblivion better than Nvidia cards do. Is this True. If so which ATI card do you recommend?
Monolithic0117
An ATI Radeon 3650/3850 1GB would be sufficient if you're looking to run only Oblivion. If you're looking to play other, more high-end games, the Diamond Radeon 4650 you were originally considering would do the job. It depends on what kinds of games you want to play, basically. If you're only upgrading your comp because of Oblivion, I'd suggest the 3850 1GB.
JahRasta
You could always go for an ATI 4870 X2, excellent.
Monolithic0117
You could always go for an ATI 4870 X2, excellent. A 4870 X2 is top-of-the-line, but if you're upgrading a computer solely to be able to play Oblivion on max settings, that would be overkill. A waste of money. charlie1239
I am basically upgrading my computer to only play oblivion, I mean i might play a small game like the sims. but mainly im ugrading for oblivion. So does this mean i should get the card that monolithic suggested is a definent buy if i want to play one max settings with almost no lag?\ because on tigerdirect.ca the ati 3650 1gb got terible ratings? the 3850 1gb got good ratings but not as good as the 8800gts did. so i am at a cross roads. Monolithic0117
Just choose whichever you are more comfortable with. The 3650 1G is very reliable, though. One of my friends uses it, and could confirm that. Keep in mind that the 3850 1GB needs 450 W, and the 8800GTS needs 400 W, so you should also upgrade your power supply while you're at it.
