Ultimaexo
Basically as the title says I think a space station would be a nice expansion to the game, there are many possibilities when you think about...I know I did lol. I mean what better way to observe the devastation of surface of the planet than from watching from a control room on a space station. Before I go any further i should mention that I'm going to be spewing out lots of random ideas and facts so sorry if this post is structured strangely. To Start, the basic design of the space station i had in mind is basically a cylinder but with a ring around it ( Concept Drawing: http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/3340/picture3x.th.jpg , It was a quick drawing (I know I know it's craptacular) but layouts the basic design I had in mind, also for those wondering about the 'no gravity' problem (which I think would be a nightmare to create) I made the space station have that ring so there would be Centrifugal Force thus produce some gravity (that way when you're walking around it makes sense lol...I could've always gone with the Artificial Gravity Generator but that's not as much fun :P) As for the innards of the stations I just imagined sections that are osculating around the central ...uhh pillar (*shrug*) would be basically the same design as the Vaults'. Though for those who woukd want a more dark and griddy could probably use the Enclave theme. Each section would serve a purpose: like a Medical bay, Green house/ Storage, Living Quaters, Market District, Temple...going around that city in circles does this to you lol. As for one of the sections would be a Docking Bay, (probably use the same room and animation as Vault 101's opening?), but more on that later. Now the connecting bridges to the Pillar would be no problem and I was thinking of just putting a small central room that has a ladder leading up and a laddder leading down. Now the bottom of the 'Pillar' there is a round room surround but giant glass window, I.e. the Command Room (or if you do your own lil' modding your personal room, Overseer room, etc.) Basically the idea was that at the center of the room would be the holographic table and various gizmos like radios and stuff postioned around the room, with an overlooking view of the world (more on that later as well). As for the top of the Piller I'm open to suggestions for that (inside and outside), I was basically thinking the insides would looks like the Atrium room in 101. Now here's basically a lists detailing some ideas and concepts i had in mind: How do I get there? http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/146/163q.gif http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/7524/110t.gif Well the premise i had in mind was that we first take the crashed alien ship ( http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/fallout/...enCrashSite.png ) and remodel it so it looks like it's actually capable of flying. Second....I'm just going to list from here lol:2. We make an interior cell for the cockpit inside, in addtion making a button or something that transits the player to another cell of the same design but this is one is located inside the ship (which is now parked stactically on the outstretched landing pad extending from the Docking Bay airlock door, ie. the vault door...see concept drawing?)3. Now I'm not very knowledgable in scripting but I would make it so you can't leave the ship without having a 'space suit' on (I was thinking of http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/fil...=4586&tab=3 )4. Now you're thinking 'What's to stop me from jumping into the black abyss?', I would say something like an invisible wall or cieling set at a certain height.5. After opening the airlock door, walking through and closing it (reverse the animation? *shrug*) You may now take off your suit....again I'm not familiar with scripting so i have no idea how feasible that is.6. And Thus reverse the method and you'll land back on this radiated mud ball fo a planet lol. Ok, so I'm here now what?http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/3274/170.gif Well I intentionally thought of the space station as a modder's resource in which they could design there own stories that involve it. As for me if I had any ability to do this I would make the story like this: As the construction for the Vaults began way, the higher postioned people in Vault-Tec, government officals, and other various cooperate conglomerate business saw that the Vaults were not the complete survival assurance they wanted and to which decided that their best option was to build a Vault to which would be out of reach of the nuclear threat. Thus they began a secret construction of an Orbital Vault (the space station). As for how they launched the nescessary equipment and items to build lets just call them the Radical Orbital Bionic Operating Thermospheric Service (...figured out what they are yet? FWI The Thermosphere is where the real Space Station is lol) When the 2-hour Great War broke out those who made it the rallying point for the ship acended through the skys and lived among the stars and became "The Higher-ups". (Get it because they're CEO's and in space......I thought it was funny <_<) Eventually 'you' find an operatable Recon Craft (the space ship) ....somewhere and pressed the Auto-Pilot button and the ship ascends to it's point of origin, the Orbital Vault. Now as for the inside story of the station I would either go with it's full of normal people with special suits or put in Geonox's Alien Hybrids...what a twist! Here are some additional ideas I had came up with: 1. Fill the Station with Ghouls and wear the Dead Space armor ( http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4441 )2. Go with the Enclave theme and reenact the Alien movie.3. Fill the place with crazy people....maybe crazy high people who think you're an illusion?4. Make a weapon that paints a target for an Orbital Laser Beam. Some Side Notes: 1. I'm horrible at modeling and such right now (I'm trying to learn but time and such uggh) so I don't want to try to make it, it'll end up plummeting to earth lol. Which is ironic because I can design houses, gears, and such (CADD). 2. As for the texture for the Earth I was inspired by the pics of the continents from the GTS mod ( http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/fil...=3157&tab=3 ), though a brown planet isn't ...viewtiful (yes viewtiful lol) as our blue one. Maybe a compramise there?3. I also acknowledge the fact that most of the time you're going to be inside the station so I guess you wouldn't really need a model of the outside.4. I would really like some response/opinions/ideas to this, it's just one of those things that a person finds that has alot of potential. Also I wonder if I put this in the right forum lol, if not you can move it if you want. Even if it's just to gain more attention to this :P...sorry.5. Sorry if this whole thing was annoying lol. TGBlank
pretty ideas, pita to make. if you show some will and progress on your own, you'll surely get support for it tho.
Yossarian22
There was somebody, who wanted to create a Spacestation as GTS extension. However, I think he got lost on the way, coz dont hear from him already around 2 month or so. There was another guy again, who started ambitious (bebe ?) and really had 2 pictures to show. But never saw anything of him too already for a while. Here the things I told the others before: Make a new climate and add there a sky texture, of outer space. You can use the moon and replace it for create planet earth and the moon itself. That wouldn't be too difficult and a good start. You could also use the fake sky mesh of museum of technology. Use enclave base statics or vault statics with maybe a few texture tweaks to get a Space Station Feeling. Just a few suggestions. Oh, my last suggestion is, dont make too much artworks and whatsoever planing. Open Geck and design something. Whenever I see somebody with a long text and artworks I already know I never will get any playable content...
Graewolph
Great idea, but if I may put my 2 cents in - Why use a transport/alien ship at all? Perhaps a transmat beam would be easier for the transport to/back from station.. just my 2 cents.
IxionInc
This could tie in extremely well. Not necessarily lore friendly, but it could tie in.Say perhaps, the space station was a large experimental vault kinda, like a Vault City. The thing was experimental, and had FEV testing on it. It also had an extremely large population. Then, the Enclave/Vault officials started doing the FEV tests for effects in space (lol), and there was a mutant outbreak. Everybody separates to the other side of the space station, and sets up shop there. The rest of it is working and functional, but overrun with all kinds of mutants. Also, the alien explorers might have encountered it on their way into the atmosphere, and have boarded the station, with their ships outside. The way it could work, is you could find a launch pod in a vault somewhere, which is kinda like a Pulowski preservation chamber, except with rockets, and it locks it's coordinates to the space station. Also, once you finish the questline or whatever up there, you can find one of the alien UFOs attatched outside, and board it, to go to other planets. That's my take on it.. O.o
TGBlank
If i remember correctly, the enclave's original plan was to bomb the planet and flee for space. But the spaceship(s?) where destroyed during the war. It would not be rare, nor lore-unfriendly, to say there where space stations, or that one of them, while [heavily] damaged, remains somewhat repairable/operational. Getting to it would be trickier, the technologically strongest 3 factions of the game seem to lack the infrastructure for a spaceships. There'd be 3 ways to get there that i'd like: You find a damaged-yet-operational space launcher (think large railgun). While this sounds structurally-complex, it'd only require 2 large unreachable rails towards the sky, and a small base (collapsed tunnels are your friends, no need to imply that what you see is the whole base). You jury-rig the alien spaceship in the alien crash site. The station was testing a prototype technology of star-trek-esque warping (add a console with notes about failed warpings, i wont forgive you if you fail to take such a chance to add fallout-esque flavor). The player either finds a dead scientist with a remote control (without batteries or somehow out-of-signal, need an excuse about why the scientist didn't ported. To make it funnier, put him in one of those preservation tubes on the streets), or the station ports the player (either automagically or after finding a tracking thingy), and further note-reading reveals that the orders where to port certain people there in case of war, but somebody set the year wrong. Rockatanskiy
How would you make the space station actually feel like a space station? I just hope it (if it's ever made) doesn't just look like the inside of a vault, with no way to actually tell you are in space besides npcs and logs telling you that you are. You know what I mean? Just remember too add lots of big open windows with a few to the earthrise and some rooms that house some sort of spacecraft (vertibirds, ufos, whatever.) i don't want you to put a ton of work into this, and then have to turn into a gimmicky "It's a vault... IN SPACE!!!!!"
IxionInc
Oh! One more idea! If it's possible, make it to where you swim through some parts of the space-station, but make the water clear, and make it to where you can breathe in it. That way, it'll look like the gravity is disrupted in some of the more "Damaged" areas!
Dantramyryr
Well there is the BOMB 001. Maybe a bit too small for what you want though?
