yayim18
I'm not sure what happened but for some reason all the textures are really muddy-looking until I'm right on top of them, at which time they will fade into their normal resolution. yayim18
also I have Dawnguard for some reason and I don't know how I got it
Rennn
That happens to me occasionally, but only when I'm using HD textures. My RAM (8GB DDR3 Ripjaw RAM at 1600mhz) and VRAM (2GB GDDR5 at 3000mhz) are more than adequate for texture loading, so my best guess is that your HDD is struggling to load the textures fast enough. I have quite a bad HDD, so that would explain why it happens to me if I try to add even a few extra HD textures. That's just my guess though. Georgiegril
I have had the experience that starting the Dawnguard questline causes my modded textures to be overwritten with Dawnguard ones, even though I start the game with Dawnguard activated. I always end up reinstalling my texture mods (like SMIM, etc) to deal with that.Maybe that is what you are seeing?I read somewhere her on the board that Steam released an update that included Dawnguard even if you didn't have that, although it was not a complete dawnguard so it is not really there, just enough to mess up your game. I also read that it was fixed. I play with Steam in offline mode until I am ready to restart the game entirely, so I am not up to date with the updates, but I do notice Steam keeps telling me it wan't to update me, so I suspect that there is a new update that might fix it. However, you may need to return to a save from before it all happened, since there may be effects within your savegame.

However unlike you I'm low on RAM and VRAM, so I think that's contributing to it too. It didn't help to have a whole bunch of DLC content dumped on my game. The textures were loading fine before Dawnguard showed up. I think I'm going to update my RAM and maybe my video card and see if that fixes it. loki1944
Not sure if anyone is still checking this thread, but I've been having the same issues, doesn't matter if ugrids are at 5 or 7, resolution is 1920x1080 or 2560x1440; the base ground textures aside from the road don't always load right away. Went from a EVGA GTX 260 to a EVGA GTX 660 and now an MSI TWIN FROZR GTX 780, from a 7200 RPM HDD to a SATA II (1366 socket M/B that's why no SATA III) Solid State Drive, overclocked my i7 960 from 3.2 Ghz to 4.1 Ghz, from 6 GB of 1333 MHz RAM to 12 GB of 1715 Mhz RAM and STILL the same issue. Just insane how 4k trees and rocks can load 7 grids away, and textures on the ground 0-50 meters away take ages to load (also tried 1k textures, no difference). vlaka
have you tried deleting your skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini, running the skyrim launcher to generate new ones and then starting the game normally?4k textures is massive overkill for something that you hardly spend any time looking at :P
loki1944
Yes, unfortunately I have tried complete re-installs from game to ini files, the issue is present on my other computer i7 4700MQ/8 GB RAM/GTX 760M 2GB as well. As I said I have tried with 1k textures all around and have the same problem. I actually do spend time looking at the trees and rocks, just weird like that. vlaka
weird O_oYou might like to look into optimising the Skyrim Textures. A quick google search will yield alot of results :)Might just be overdoing it with the large textures. Have you tried tweaking distance settings for LOD's etc
