Must have mods...

Modok

Recommended Posts

So, this is going to a virgin install for a first time player of Fallout 3, and I was wondering what the "Must Have" mods are?

I want it to be as glitch and bug free as possible and I kinda want to keep an "Original" feel to the game my first couple times through, so no major skinjobs or content changes.

I'm going to get O:A and the Pitt eventually but not right away. (The Chinese Stealth armor might make it sooner than later!)

With the research I've done so far it looks like I'll prolly get:

Fake Patch

FOMM

FOSE

MMM/MMMSpawn

Frederycks Tactical Weapons

MMM and Frederycks look like they would add some more realism and provide a better challenge without breaking the storyline too much.

Yes? No? Maybe?

Any recommendations, pointers would be highly appreciated! :thanks:

My only recommendation is to play it at least once all the way though the main quest part (at the very least) in order to appreciate the time and effort all the modders put into making the game all that much better, after that you can do what i did if you have the time. I went through each of the categories one by one checking each mod to see what it was about checked ratings (don't go much by these) but mainly the comments of what people were saying about them. IMHO i don't think there is a real definitive "List" for any one person, some will have some they like that others can't stand. i will suggest you get FOSE, FOMM, FO3edit (for little tweaks) and the unofficial patch as a start of your collection (they aren't mods but utilities for implementing and using MODS.

If you have MMM, include Enclave Commander to even the odds. It keeps things balanced.

If you don't have MMM and use Enclave Commander it gets unbalanced. Not that this means it is any less fun.

I'm against the tactical weapons. In my opinion they feel wrong. I prefer to use original weapons only, because it keeps the Fallout feel. Using too many real world weapons in a vastly different time, when humanity pursued vastly different technologies feels jarring. They clash too hard with the Fallout Aesthetic to fit in. I know Fallout Tactics had modern weapons, but that game was not canon. I hate saying this because people jump on it and take it personally. I say again, that is my opinion.

Other mods:

Weapon Mod Kits: Integrates seamlessly with the game. Enhances the weapons with modifications, whats not to like? Also adds the lever rifle, a non-lincoln one used by enemies like raiders. http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3388

The Coyote Reflex power armor: Want a stealth powered armor? Don't want to spend 10 bucks on OA? Get this. Better than OA's armor. It has its own backstory that does not intrude in the F3 lore or atmosphere, and it ties into an already pre-existing quest, but that part isn't neccesary for completion. Simply put, its not overpowered and just sitting on the ground somewhere. http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3365

Better Power Armor: its power armor, but for men! http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=117

TIP!

And in general:

1) Click on browse categories on the homepage

2) Click on a category

3) Look at the 'organize' button. Check the option for downloads

4) Click 'Desc' for descending order

5) Click 'Go'

It will show you the most popular mods by download. You can't go wrong. You are looking at the best of the best, more often than not.

Since you're getting FOSE, get CASM (gives you better autosaving), and search for vats and get a nice fix mod (v 1.1 and above broke vats a lil).

SP destruction (makes many objects like radios destructible) is also pretty nice, you barely even notice you have it most of the time.

After that, it's just a matter of adding neat things.
