Hello recently every time I try to launch my vortex I get an error message that says "an unrecoverable error has occurred start up failed the DLL winapi.node failed to load this usually only happens if an antivirus tool quarantined or locked it" I've tried looking up what to do but I cant find anything if someone could help me id appreciate it.

i'd suggest re-installing vortex, but before you do, turn off or disable your anti-virus.

also, what anti-virus have you got? a lot of them are nothing but snake oil, so you may want to consider simply running with windows defender and removing your anti-virus completely.

We've seen this happen to a bunch of people but we've doing a bunch of changes the last few updates trying to figure out what's causing this and with 1.5.13 we pretty much ruled out that it's a problem with Vortex or it's installer or that there is something we could do from our end to fix it.

Based on prior chats with affected users, Installing this: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170 seems to fix the problem.

But: The Vortex installer in 1.5.13 installs that package automatically if it's not already there.

Which means that if manually installing it fixes it that means you already had it installed and then it got damaged on your system for some reason, e.g. because you or some software deleted or replaced with an older version one of the dlls in that package.

@tannin42 - i saw the 1.5.12 version installed the VC libraries - would it be fair to suggest to people having issues with vortex to check and possibly reinstall the VC libraries on their system, and, if they're running a version of vortex older than 1.5.12 to update to at least 1.5.12?

Well, everyone should be running the latest stable build, which is 1.5.13. To be completely blunt: If you decide to stay on an older version, we provide no support beyond: Update, see what happens then.

But yes, if no new information turns up from anyone affected the only thing left for us to do is change the error message to suggest a reinstall of that lib and removing the "Report" button.

The only antivirus I'm running is windows defender and im not sure how to go into its settings and I have the links download installed I'm not really sure where to go next honestly but I appreciate the speedy responses guys. Should add though its probably obvious that this only started after the latest update
