Aela the Huntress - Reset

I am on a new play through and wanted to get Aela as my spouse. I had d/l "Enhanced Skyrim Followers - Aela the Huntress" by DreamKing some years ago but she was always a follower.

I did the companion quest and got Aela as a follower when spent enough time with her. Got the Amulet of Mara. No marry option. I went and read the mode and it says she is not able to be married.. but he would add in an update. No update and the mod has been abandoned. Ok.. deleted the mod. Went back to a save file before the Companions quest. Aela wound up black faced and naked.

Went into C/K and checked everything. Made a save file just for her, checked for the ESFAela.esp and ESFAela.bsa files as the mod says. Could not find them. Did a computer search.. no files. Went in game and resurrected her, did the resetAI, I checked using the "pickpocket" and she has no clothing in inventory. Went back into C/K and changed her armor... still naked and blackface.

Is there something I am missing???

Am I going to have to restart to get Aela reset?

Thank you

You may have to create a vanilla game and restart but I would try validating your game files first.

First, this is for Legendary, I realize you are on the Legendary forum but many people do not know there is a specific forum for SSE and post questions on this forum when they are Playing SSE.

To validate your master files delete the SkyrimPrefs.inii and Skyrim.ini files in Documents>My Games>Skyrim, then delete appcache in your Steam directory.. Shut your computer down for five or ten minutes to let hooks reset. It must be a shut down not a restart. Then right click on Skyrim in Steam, go to Properties>Local Files>Verify integrity of game files and click on that. Once it is done verifying and then installing those files launch your game from Steam. You must launch from Steam before doing anything else to recreate the files you have deleted as without those ini files none of your mod tools will be able to locate Skyrim.

If you have made any changes to your ini files you will have to do so again, do not save those ini files and then copy the saved files back as that will just leave you where you started. You delete the appcache as that is where Steam keeps data on your game and when you launch the game from Steam it will install the data back into your game which may defeat the whole purpose of this. Also if you have cleaned your master files you will have to do so again. I would then go to that save file you have before the Companion quest.

This validating master files is usually what I try in situations like yours first before taking the nuclear option of creating a vanilla game and starting from scratch.

No guarantees and if someone comes in with another option I would certainly try that but that is all I can think of.

Good luck

Woops!!! Sorry.... Yes on LE. Gave SSE a try for 2 months.... came back to LE.

I mostly use Vortex and have a "generic" save file just inside the last exit from Helgen. I will load that, make a save, add/activate mods and go from there. This way don't have to go completely through the entire opening. If I have to do a major reset its from that point. I will do what you suggest and go through those files... see what is there. I did find a really old save file.... before I added that mod... and things seemed to be working. I have not deleted all the save files that used that mod. I will load through Steam and see what happens.

Will let you know what I find.

Thank you for the suggestions.
