Cremdogz
I made a thread a couple of months back, except I never figured out the problem. That wasn't until for the 4th bloody time I removed absolutely everything and started playing on Vanilla Oblivion that I realised that I was still getting the same frame rate reductions. I was thinking what on earth was going on, even inside the sewers it lagged. I would get strange lines across the screen I've never seen before, usually in a normal game when it lacks it skips a few frames, no weird lines. Anyway, that's not the problem. It then occurred to me that the lighting is really bright, and I realised that it wasn't me doing it. While putting Oblivion down to its lowest settings (some areas got perfect FPS) I still got the same thing when I went outside, massive lighting, and barely being able to move. However, I had only just installed Oblivion this time around, there was nothing in any compartment anywhere, absolutely nothing. The massive amount of lighting is still there with and without mods. I need a way to get rid of it. I have been researching, and I found a few things.http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/95545-13...on-running-slow While that's not me asking the question (though exactly same problem), that was my problem. I tried what they said, both do and don't reset graphics settings. Neither worked. I deleted the ini file (backed up of course) and followed through and neither worked. I then updated my drivers (DirectX doesn't need updating, so I'm fine there), and there wasn't any real difference either, same problem. I then saw this.http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Ini_Settings I followed a few of them (original still backed up) and while I only followed the dual core ones, I did notice a slight frame rate increase, but this game is still going unplayably slow. Finally, I ran into this.http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.ph...p;#entry8103714 More specifically, I found number 5. Now I do not want to do that, the amount of hours I've wasted fixing Oblivion is too many. I spent all today (Easter Saturday, for Americans you're still in it, Australia is already in Easter Sunday) and got pretty much no where, I reinstalled mods over and over, and I badly do not want to do that again, I'm running XP and not moving up to Windows 7, where installing mods is a breeze (did it very quickly for someone else). Please someone help me as fast as possible, I've been months without Oblivion and I've sometimes spent entire days unsuccessfully trying to fix this game. The specs on my computer don't matter, I already know that much, so I don't think there's any need asking for it. There's got to be an easier way than removing absolutely everything. Qwaxalot
The strange lines across the screen could be an indication of an overheating video card. You might try opening the case cleaning all the fans (make sure they work too) and heat sinks etc. Leaving the cover off the case and aiming a fan inside can also help. There are a number of utilities that let you monitor temps (here's one Pc-wizard You could also be experiencing a failing memory stick (Memtest86) And the last and easiest thing to check is sound. If you have a motherboard audio solution, it uses the CPU for processing audio. Experimentally disable audio in the Oblivion.ini bMusicEnabled=1bSoundEnabled=1 set both values to 0, and test EDIT: Seems obvious, but I assume you've tried with HDR and Bloom turned off. Cremdogz
Unfortunately, this is all drowned out by the fact that I have a Mac. And this problem only affects Oblivion, nothing else. Everything else is perfect like it should be, just Oblivion. With that, I doubt I have an overheating video card or a sound problem, both work fine even when the game isn't responding, even changes songs like it normally would. I tried your disabling Audio and Sound thing but it made no difference. And yes, I have been trying this with HDR and Bloom off. EDIT: I will be gone for the next 6 hours, please throw ideas at me. If nothing works, I will do that extremely dangerous thing of messing with the registry to make it go away, and I DO NOT want to do that, it means reinstalling everything all over again, a process which takes me 6 boring hours. EDIT 2: Ok, I will be going to bed (this isn't stalling, other things have popped up so I did nothing tonight). Please, will someone answer when I wake up with some sort of answer. I've been away from this for 11 whole hours and it got 5 more page views. I really do need help with this.
Cremdogz
I hate to double post but I really need some advice. EDIT: Forget it, I'm not gonna wait any longer, 5 months Oblivionless is enough. Qwaxalot, thanks for your advice, and I will go and mess with that registry.
