"Unable to retrieve signature image dimensions" error

Hello, everyone!

I'm currently having an issue with editing my signature. I've noticed that a lot of people had a similar problem.

Well, I tried to insert the image with correct dimensions, aligned it to center and everything displayed properly while editing. When I tried to save it, error message “Unable to retrieve signature image dimensions, please try another image” popped up.

I've even tried some options with BB Code, like on different forums:

… but unfortunately without any result, the same error message appeared. I've checked a few threads and it was edited manually by mods, however I may have overlooked some general solution... ?

I'll be thankful for any advice.

EDIT: When I try to give it the actual dimensions:

… it tells me that "You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community. "

Every line I've written passed in external BBCode checker. Sometimes (happened like 3 or 4 times) it's actually kind enough to accept the BBCode, however without the image, therefore I have the actual BBCode in my signature (not the picture). I'm a bit confused. :D

Yes, yes, that's exactly what I read. I was just curious what's causing it because it must be exhausting for you to handle every request like this manually. I tried to tinker with it before even writing this, but to no avail. :(

Nevertheless, thank you very much, good sir!

It is annoying. I have a feeling it might be down to browser settings/addons (you'd be surprised how many things these break!). I've been poking around in the admin area and I can't even find any settings for signatures.

Edit: Found the settings, but there's nothing to them other than settings the x and y sizes.

Hmmm, I could try it on four different browsers... ? I only use one but keep the other three for testing sometimes. There are no plugins installed on the other three, but here, on this one - yeah, I definitely agree with you that something of it could've gone wrong. I would try it under the current picture and hope it won't break the one you uploaded in the process. :ermm: If we exclude this possibility, something could be incorrectly set on the server where the signature uploads - it started to happen recently, right? Were there any updates or changes? It doesn't strike me as a coincidence as it happened even to others, but what baffles me that sometimes it actually accepted the code, it just never processed it and wrote a plain text there. But that also could've been (most likely) a problem caused by me, I curiously tried a lot of variants and some bracket or something could've gotten lost. :D

I added a limit to my own signature size and I can replicate the issue. It happened for both an Imgur link and an image from our own site. So I can only assume that something is wrong in the forum's validation of images. I will see if this can be fixed or disabled.

Perfect! Editing went smoothly, image was accepted without issues. I guess it's not a long-term solution, people will always find a way to exploit it if they want, but for now, it's still better than editing it manually for everyone – at least before a more stable solution is found. Thanks again for your help!
