Smaller power armor helmets

In Fallout 3, power armor actually looks really bulky as compared to the human body (as they should) when the player isn't wearing any sort of helmet. However, the helmets themselves seem to look too large compared to the body armor. It's kind of wonky. It really is a shame, because I like the overall design of the new BoS power armor (and of course the classic t-51), but I can't help but feel that they would be much improved if the helmets weren't so very... big.

Now I feel that the problem is a bit more noticeable concerning the t-51 and t-4x power armor models than the Enclave model, but I if the heads could be made a bit smaller in comparison to the armor, it might make the armor look more imposing. As it is, they just remind me a bit too much of a (very high tech) sports mascot outfit.

So to the 3D artists and modelers and modders out there, is there any way to resize the helmets without actually making them seem impossible to fit over the player's head? And would any of you actually be willing to resize them?

Completely and utterly seconded, and I think it might be possible to re-size them without making it look odd, I made a failed attempt at making some ruined APA, park of it I did pull off was mangling the face so you could see the user under it partially, and there was a rather large area under the helmet before there was face, although I don't know about the t-51d or the new BOS armor...

Look at the Tribal T-51b Helmet mod. It's designed specifcally so you can see the head inside the helmet, you'll find that the helmet sizes are actually pretty accurate if you want any sort of protection.

Well then, maybe the armor could be enlarged somehow to accommodate the change. I can't really see this being done, however... not without scripts to increase the player's size, and hence also enlarging the player character's head... which is a whole other problem, really. Making it compatible with existing power armor mods, one would probably have to link it to whatever script determines Power Armor Training.

Seriously, the least hassle would involve simply shrinking the helmets. In Fallout, power armor is supposed to make the wearer appear much taller, after all. One simply must imagine that it does, and accept that, sadly, there's no easy way to represent it graphically in-game. As it is a smaller helmet would just seem more aesthetically pleasing, even if it's not 100% realistic. As long as you don't spend too much time comparing the size of your character's head sans-helmet to their head with the helmet (magic fairy head shrinking dust is go!), it shouldn't be much of a problem...

Just like it isn't really a problem that every BoS and Enclave member seems to be the same height as everyone that isn't wearing power armor.

In my opinion, since the helmet replaces the head to prevent clipping (as TGBlank pointed out), it's a minor inconsistency that I could live with, just to make the overall suit look better.

Can you see the difference between the current helmet:

The old one was smaller, far thiner, and it was often presented only slightly bigger than a normal head.

The new one is friggin fat, so much in fact, that it looks like a goddamned lego:
