RazaCovek
How often do I come across a really cool mod that I would like to use in Skyrim, but it says you got to have an expansion. Why not modders just design and place their creations in the base game so that the players have the option to install [or not] the expansions or aleast create an optional version for those players who don't need expansions to enjoy the game or the mods? The same can be said for all previous TES. Edited October 13, 2013 by RazaCovek
ghosu
Because when the mod requires files from the expansion pack you have to do it this way. Sometimes it's even not possible to make an optional version (as example my Flintlock Rifle Mod - requires Dawnguard's crossbow mechanics). Ripping content could end in a ban. Ripping content could end in a ban.Yeah, many mods use files that were added by the DLCs. This usually makes the mod better since the DLCs add new mechanics to the game. Porting the content from a DLC to a base game is illegal and will result in a ban from the Nexus and other sites.

The same can be said for all previous TES. Because many mods use assets from the DLC.Some followers use Dawnguard AI packages, some landscapes use Dragonborn trees, etc. Many mods simply by nature require the DLC.Rather than asking why modders don't go out of their way and do extra work to make their mod work without DLC, why not just buy the DLC?
