Red Marks after using Optimizer Textures

This is a strange one.

I started with a well modded FNV game. I decided to add some smaller mods and used Optimizer Texture for the first time.

At first I was stuck with red !'s as weapons, helmets, projectiles, explosive effects, hair, and also had pink squares as Project Nevada HUD elements (specifically the grenade indicator), and purple arms. I could not access the menu to load or quit the game. Only CTRL ALT DLT would work. I looked to use the backup that Optimizer Texture made. The rar file was probably missing 3/4 of the textures it replaced. Great. After restoring the backup it still did not fix my problem.

I proceeded to uninstall and reinstall every mod I had using the NMM in the hopes that this would restore any lost textures that the OT killed. I also ran a steam verify local files and redid archive invalidated and DarnUI's ini changes. At first this appeared to have worked. I could see my weapons, all of PN's HUD elements worked, etc. However it seems that once I move a certain distance (new cell maybe?) the red exclamation points start replacing scenery. Switching weapons will make weapons that were once perfectly fine turn into red marks. Cycling PN's grenade indicators which would work when initially loaded would turn into pink squares, explosives, helmets, everything would turn into red marks.

It appears the following have been affected even after being reinstalled

ADAM armor (reinstalled properly)
PN HUD elements

All weapons lose model and sound, these are WRP

Electrocity lights. I loaded a save where I was under them and they load fine. If I load a save and then find lights in a different area they are floating red marks.

I am stumped. Can anyone suggest a fix?

Here is the load order but I don't think it is the problem.

Did you mess with the bsa portion of Optimizer textures? it's a lot more prone to problems than the more standard setting.

If I were getting missing mesh errors everywhere I went, across various mods, I would simply delete my FNV data directory and start the installation process all over. However, also bear in mind that you're right up around the limit on plugins. Deactivate a dozen or so and see if you still have problems before cleaning out your install.

Instead of scrubbing your system, I'd suggest that you first try the alternative drithius mentioned. It is most likely just a too large list. Try to disable around 1/4 of them at a time. If that fails because there might be errors in more then 1 mod, then do the opposite and enable 1/4 at a time and test them separately.

I too have found that from time to time I have to back up all my FNV folders, delete everything (including the FNV folder in "my games") and reinstall. But most of the time it is enough to identify which mod(s) are having problems and de-activate and re-activate them. This pulls in the files from the original ZIP that NMM maintains.

I too use Optimizer Textures and have had good results. Memory used goes down due to the smaller textures and with that I get a slightly faster and slightly more stable game. I also modify select BSAs, but I keep a copy and restore just that file if anything goes sideways. Also I only do 1 BSA at a time because as drithius said occasionally something weird happens when optimizing them.

I did both and appear to have fixed the issue. The optimizer worked this time as well.

I had a lot of deactivated .esp files that I moved into another folder. That and removing a few non-essential mods seems to have helped a lot.
