skunknste
Hi, does anyone know of any mods for class restrictions like thief carnt use longsword, wizard carnt wear armour type stuff. Also for weapons to have +1 steel sword +4 silversword ect ect. Im looking for some variety to add to the game. Oh and seperate skills like in morrowind (axe skill, short sword) Any Ideas ? Im wipeing all my saves and mods, reinstalling and starting again :-) :ninja:
ricksamik
I have suggested this before in some posts. Like Daggerfall... a knight couldnt use magicka..it felt silly being a knight and using a heal spell or flare :)) or being a mage wearing heavy armor :)) ... Every class has it's perks and quirks. I think with the larger player base...aiming more towards kids the ES games are getting easier. I love Oblivion I play it pretty much all the time but, I can't help but feel like I'm being lead around on a leash sometimes..... 'Map Marker Added'.... then when you get to the destination it says... 'You Found So and So" or Nocturnal requests you to go get her Eye of Nocturnal and when you find it ... its says... I've found the Eye of Nocturnal I should take it back to the Shrine....well duhhhhh. I think with the newer graphics...awesome graphics theyve lost the depth of the older ES games. In Daggerfal you could get lost in a Dungeoun, catch a disease and die before you got out. DF had many more skills than Oblivion even learn the monsters languages, climbing... I wouldn't even mind a reduction in the awesome graphics for a more challenging in depth game. Good suggestion up there.... happy gaming :) Daggerfall also was the whole continent of Tamriel not just one province which made it immensly HUGE!! Vagrant0
.aiming more towards kids the ES games are getting easier. bing... I wouldn't even mind a reduction in the awesome graphics for a more challenging in depth game. Good suggestion up there.... happy gaming :)I love Oblivion I play it pretty much all the time but, I can't help but feel like I'm being lead around on a leash sometimes.....It's called Bethsoft making the game mostly for their Xbox360 audience. They made the game less cluttered with things like depth or details, and made it easier to sit down, knowing nothing about the game, and just play it like any fps. Even compared to Morrowind, there's a significant amount of dumbing down and leading around. As for the whole "use whatever you want" kind of style, that's kinda a silly notion in the greater scope of things, in the real world, if you're strong enough to wear plate mail, there's nothing keeping you from wearing it or becoming accustomed to wearing it. Same thing with magic, if you're willing to spend the time learning in, and raising your ability to use it, why would you suddenly be unable to just because you decided to wear some metal equipment?. Now before you cite "well, wearing armor would make it harder to move, or get in touch with those energies that are required for magic." this has already been factored in by the effectiveness of spells going down for wearing equipment you are not skilled in. And as there is no strict division between cleric spells, mage spells, druid spells, such as in D&D, there needs to be these lighter restrictions in order for classes like Paladins, Spellswords, and the like to be viable. Weapon restrictions, the same thing. Even Gandalf used a longsword from time to time, and seemed rather adept at it without having to cast some sort of transformation spell. The TES4 games do away with all that nonsense (it doesn't fit with the lore either) and let the player just decide what kind of things they want to use. If it doesn't fit the kind of character you are making, don't use it. There are already penalties for a thief in heavy armor, slow weapons verses fast ones, heavy verses light verses clothes. The point is that these kinds of rules just wouldn't work well in the world as it is. Most NPCs would be in violation of them, and some quests almost require usage of magic, arrows, or melee weapons. The game itself is just not designed to support this kind of thing, take the mage guild for example, a level 3 character who has never used any magic can become archmage. xxXEvandarXxx
Maybe you'll be interested in this mod, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23005, it's not class restrictions, but skill and stats requirements.
darkjaffar
Daggerfall also was the whole continent of Tamriel not just one province which made it immensly HUGE!!I feel I should mention that Daggerfall was not the entire continent of Tamriel, though you are correct in that Daggerfall was huge (the largest static game world, to the best of my knowledge, ever made and released in a game). TES2 allowed you to visit most of the areas surrounding the Illiac Bay, including Some parts of High Rock and some parts of Hammerfell. TES1:Arena, I believe, did allow you to go to any location in Tamriel, but I am yet to play it so I am unsure. It was actually smaller than Daggerfall's playable area. Still bigger than Morrowind and Oblivion, even combined. Like was already said, I don't know if I personally would like it either because those old restrictions don't make much sense, in lore or otherwise. I did like the amount of customization in initial character creation those games had, and a lot of other qualities those games had, but it does seem silly that someone has "restricted weapon types" in a strict sense. Magic classes, could be more justifiable in some sense. It would be nice to see return of more skills, but honestly, I used very few of the languages back in Daggerfall because they were a waste of a good slot. Most were only applicable in certain special cases, which is much less useful than, say, having good Destruction magic. While Oblivion's system is "dumbed down" it also seems to make sense as there are few uses for skills they removed.
