Problem with Pipboy Readius

I know there is a forum for the mod, but the last post there was 2 years ago...

I have 2 major issues:

1. when i press tab to use the pipboy, my character is holding it far away from the screen, so i can barely see whats on the display

2. i cant switch on the light, which you activate by holding the tab button

(besides them everythings workin fine, i gues....)

(oh and i have a minor one also, when you go to 3rd person view, you cant see the pipboy on your wrist, theres just a blank space.)

EDIT:

Forgot to mention that i have fose installed.

SOLUTION:

It's seems that this mod NEEDS to be installed with fmm or nmm. cause there is something need to be changed in the fallout.ini, which is not included in the raw modding datas.

thanks

well... i actually i did not use fomm (i just opened the file wit h winrar, which worked) and did not use achive invalidation, cause i dont see the point in that. if you could explain why it is important to use it (AI) than i would... but i installed every mod w/o it and it worked (besides sex animation, though that it didnt work with AI either)

As I understand it, Archive Invalidation allows the game to overwrite its default textures (and possibly meshes, sounds, voices all that jazz). So assuming that this mod has a new mesh and texture for the Pip-Boy, you are essentially allowing the mod to remove the vanilla Pip-Boy but not replace it with anything - hence the blank space.

If you are planning on downoading / making quite a few mods, I would seriously advise getting FOMM, as this lets you edit mod load orders and has Archive Invalidation integrated into it, among other pretty useful tools.

well, thanks for the explanation, i really appreciate!

im actually using nmm (yet only for the load order) is it ok to it too? it has AI included aswell and can possibly run fomod datas aswell...

ill just try, thanks again

EDIT:

Forfgot to ask, is there anything i should know about using AI? cause i think i remember that you must do something before simply activating it, i did that back then when skyrim was released and i played it.

EDIT 2:

there seemed to be a parameter needed to be changed in the fallout.ini.

i just installed the mod again, but this time with nmm and the fomod data.

it asked if it can change some parts in the ini file, so i came to this conclusion.

hopefully this helps someone with the some problem...

EDIT (yep, another one :D):
found out that i already activated AI... de- and activated it... still those issues that you can see on the 2 pictures on the edge of the whole one.

I haven't actually used NMM myself, so I can't say for definite, but it does seem to be a trusted resource on par with FOMM so I would say it's fine.

I know FOMM sorts it all out for you with one click of a button, so it's reasonable to think that NMM would do the same. I think it's when you download a standalone Arch Invalid tool, or just do it manually in the Fallout.ini (or whatever it's called) that you have to do several things to make sure nothing breaks.

This was in the posts section of the mod:

In Fallout.ini (In Documents\My Games\Fallout 3\")

Look for the line "fPipboy1stPersonFOV"

It will probably be "fPipboy1stPersonFOV=47.0".

I think the higher the value, the more zoomed out it will appear.

The value for normal first person (when running around, etc.) is "55", so you may want to keep the value around there.

@AxlDave

Hmm, i can remember overflying the site... strange that i missed that part...

anyways, i still have that other issue...

is there something special i must do, before activating Archive Invalidation?

As I said, my experience with FOMM and my own mods is that you just need to click a button and it does everything that needs to be done. Without knowledge of this mod's content, how it was created, and how NMM deals with Arch Inval I'm afraid I cannot say for definite why it is not working or if there is anything else you need to do.

The only "solutions" I can think of are:

1) Read up on NMM, particularly the description, it should have some explanation about how it handles Arch Inval and whether you need to do anything special.

2) Install FOMM and install the mod with it. If the blank space problem still persists, then it is most likely a problem with the mod itself. If this is the case, read through the posts again and see if anyone else has had that problem, and more importantly if anyone has posted a specific solution.

3) If you are able, open the mod with GECK and find the new pip boy RefID - that's the one with 8 digits, should look something like 0100384b (those are just made up numbers). Then once you have that ID, enter this code into the in-game console:

player.additem xx00384b 1 - xx is the load order number
resetpipboymanager
player.equipitem xx00384b

This might work, but then again it might not.

4) If your game is installed with Steam, or into the C:\Program Files directory, or has Games For Windows Live (GFWL) activated, these have all been known to cause serious issues with modding and you will need to read up on the relevant one to see how to fix it. Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it requires a completely fresh install.

These are probably not the quick fixes you were hoping for, but unfortunately there's nothing quick about modding a game

If after all this it still does not work, then I am afraid without additional info I am out of ideas. Your course of action then would likely be investigating with the GECK or finding another Pip-Boy mod, I'm sure there's got to be more than one out there...

Hopefully one of these things will work.
