HOlyCrapOfGod Posted April 15, 2009 Share Posted April 15, 2009 My first mod by my self, (my team has no credit for this) and it's an epic failure. no one likes it. I've had over 1000 views and only 3 downloads. that's 0.3% of people will even give it a chance. I have failed as a modder and my team is bugging me for not advertising enough. (pre-order my teams mod now, if my site works yet, link is below in my signature) my Toma vera race. I've added lots of perks and goodness, but not enough to make it to cheap. My skills prevent me from making a whole new bidy so I messed with a wood elf, maybe that's it? dezdimona Posted April 15, 2009 Share Posted April 15, 2009 peoples tastes differ.When your going up against well establish body mods with plenty of clothing and armor mods to wear like Exnems and growlfs, you can expect low DL's.Success is measured by how much you enjoyed createing it not by who used it! I also think people may be hesitant to give you advice because by them saying what they think you could do better or differently, if you take it the wrong way they could end up getting themselves banned. You should just make what you like and not worry about it. I made a half-elf race, and while it's downloaded because it's part of a beauty mod, many people have expressed that they don't like it because they think it's redundant. I wanted it. It's my mod and therefore it stays. Some of my other mods get very little downloads, such as the playable Imperial Palace Armor. That is probably due to the large number of similar mods. Mine is different for having a female cuirass, but I figure it's just not appealing to many people. Maybe they just don't like IP armor and it has nothing to do with my version. Oblivion is three Years old and fairly easy to mod, so everyone who wants a Race mod already has one. More then one for the most Part. Every "standard" Race has been done. There are more Elven Race mods then elven NPCs in Oblivion.There are Vampire Races. The Bad Guy Race was one of the first things to be played.There are Races for just about any Taste you can think of and then some Races for tastes you can not think of. I saw a Lego Race somewhere. Anyone who is interested in a Racemod, which will be less People as in, for example, fable since Oblivion quite clearly was designed with the first Person Perspective in Mind, will already have some Racemods. Those People who are new to Oblivion may ask in some Forum about races, or maybe they'll use a search engine to search for "elven". In Forums, the Veterans will post links to older Racemods, as they know if they're any good even if they haven't played them themselves. Do not worry about the number of downloads. Those three people might like it enough for 10000 downloads. as said, tastes differ. Mod to your tastes, not someone else's. The chips will fall were they may, but you will enjoy yourself. Even if someone thinks its bad, even if someone thinks its a dime a dozen, it makes your experience better so enjoy it. I think creating other races besides those that have already been done could help. I don't know what kind of race that could be done that hasn't already been done, though. I'm sorry nobody likes your mod. I'm sure a lot of people like it, to me, it looks good, except the missing eyeballs but like I said, there are already tons of other elven mods out ther. It's not an elven race, but please just ignore it, won't you. :ohmy: @HOlyCrapOfGod:As others have said, you should create mods you enjoy creating and have fun using. If you wish to share them with the community well it's to their benefit. Whether it's the best or the worst makes no difference. At least you actually produced something. You may notice a lot of complainers have never even opened the Construction Set on their own. We all had to start somewhere and with encouragement you'll learn new skills and produce more mods. HOlyCrapOfGod Posted April 16, 2009 Author Share Posted April 16, 2009 I understand that people are sick of elves, but once I finally figure out how to use nifskope, (or get one of my team mates to do it for me, lol) my mod will look nothing at all like an elf, behold! the horror of the ancient TOMA VERA (Really sorry, I drew it, for some reason every picture I could find had a swatika on it's forhead, although it was actually the symbol of nature, I'm sure people would not appreciate it. also, for some reason the topic of Nazis has com up alot recently, sorry for the history lesson, behold and all that) Remember, I drew this in like, 2 minutes, so it's a little rough. but I hope for it to look something like that, only much more frightening, and cool.
