Skyrim Causing Memory Leaks, Game Unplayable Please Help!

Hey there,

I've put about 190 hours in Skyrim so far and I've never had this problem before. Within 5 minutes of gameplay, my game will freeze for several seconds, the screen will turn black, then put me back in the game with a dramatically reduced frame rate, and mouse input is severely lagged, nothing I do seems to fix it except for a total restart of my computer, but that only fixes it temporarily, as it will happen again within the same time frame during every single attempt at playing.

I have no doubt that this is a memory leak, but I don't know what to do...

...Cleanmem did NOT help at all.

I have 1GB of VRAM and 4GB of RAM, and I have never had problems like this until last week.

Please, if anyone has any helpful advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

Other specs of your computer may help. Also, what happens when you quit the game in that situation? Is it still laggy, or is it impossible to quit the game once it goes wonky?

What specs would you like to see?

If I quit the game, my computer seems to take several seconds to get back to its normal performance. For example, If I try to open Chrome, it will act frozen for several seconds before becoming functional.

Processor, your graphics card, operating system, etc.

Also, it could be something else that could be causing your system to be in the fritz. Have you noticed any other programs that was running in the background at the time of this? Any Steam notifications, etc?

That sounds like a background program kicking in - and stealing resources needed for the game. Sometimes these can be hard to find if it is something that is calling home At a set interval. Check for viruses, VIOP programs, Windows indexing, and any program that auto updates.

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Processor: Intel® Core i7 CPU 930 @ 2.80GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.8GHz

NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250

Nothing out of the ordinary, no. I've never had this problem until last week.

I always try to kill iTunesHelper before playing anything. Little parasite. Although I've never had any issues with any programs stealing memory, not even iTunesHelper.

Hasn't stopped me from playing on high with no issues up to this point.

QUICK EDIT: I've decided to invest in a new 660Ti GFX card...hopefully that will solve a lot of my woes.
