Huggyd37
So I was going to download the BOSS mod program from:http://boss-developers.github.io/When the program is done downloading McAfee pops up and says the files contains a trojan horse then I just delete it. Does anyone run this program, is it really that helpful? I have Steam and I have been using Nexus. I am not huge into MODing I may run only around 5 mods or there around. Also on a different topic. Harthfire & Dawnguard are called DLC (downloadable content) right? so are these something that I can add into the game using Nexus? Sorry for the newbie sort of qustions. I do have more coming (future posts)
bben46
First, The newbies forum is intended for introducing yourself, and not for troubleshooting - we have a separate forum under each game just for that - and a BOSS question can fit in several of those. BOSS is not a mod - it is a utility program that runs outside of the game to help you order your mods. If you try to install it like a mod - it will not work - so be sure to read the instructions first. As for it having a trojan - I just scanned BOSS from the Nexus site and from the one you listed with a virus scanner called Virus Total. It uses 46 different antivirus programs - including most of the popular ones as well as a few obscure and very powerful scanners to scan a single file or URL. It cannot be used to scan your entire computer. MacAfee is not one of those that it uses though. It came back clean - NO viruses found out of 46 scanners. That doesn't mean there is no virus - it just means that 46 different anti-virus programs did not find one in BOSS. This means that your MacAfee hit is very likely a false positive. if you get many of these, I suggest scanning your entire computer with something like the free version of Malwarebites anti-virus. Here is a link for VirusTotal - it is free for limited use: https://www.virustotal.com/ As for the DLCs - they are not free and must be downloaded from Steam. They are automatically added to your game data file when they are purchased. Nexus is not a pirate friendly site and we do not support pirated games or DLCs. We do ban pirates immediately and with no excuses accepted. Please read the Terms of Service for more detail on our rules.
