Armor variants for smithing upgrades

I've been using Immersive Armors for awhile, but recently just switched to morrowloot and ERSO for difficulty and immersion, bottom line is I have dropped the dozens of armors in that mod in favor of a more vanilla and smithing focused game. I had an idea that could possibly blend the two, but I'm not a modder and wouldn't know the first thing about doing it.

I always thought that it was cool that you could upgrade armors to fine, flawless, etc, but thought it was lame that it doesn't actually change how the armor looks. I thought, what if I had fur armor, and at the standard level it was just the basic armor. But as I upgraded all the pieces, they all changed looks one or twice, eventually maybe the legendary version would look like the warchief armor from immersive armors, I think thats what a legendary set of fur would look like. It would be cool if there were more requirements to upgrade armor to that level, such as saber cat pelts and things like that, each related to that armor type.

I'd love to see a mod that did that with a few basic sets of armors. It would keep things fresh for those who like playing with the vanilla armors but also want to add some variety that's meant to achieve, rather than find. Would also make smithing a more desirable perk tree. Hope someone picks this up.

It seems like this should be possible to do in creation kit assuming that you had the armors models that you want to use working in game. Wouldn't you just need to edit the recipe in the CK? For instance for Iron armor you change the temper recipe to include and use up the Iron armor and produce a banded iron armor. Then if you had another model say something like the "veteran's iron armor" mod you could similarly change the banded iron armor's temper recipe to produce that. Correct me if I am wrong but it seems like it should be doable. The biggest issue would probably just be getting together models for different armor variants. And there might be compatibility issues with other mods I guess.
