Biges
Hi! I want to play Fallout 3 for the first time, so I'd like to ask which mods/unofficial patches should I install to fix the design glitches and put back more of the F1/F2 atmosphere. One of them is the Compenium I suppose? But it has not been updated for quite some time, has it? Thanks
TGBlank
I'd say go to the files section, and go by categories, and start looking around. Before any modding is done however, install FOMM. You also probably want the unofficial fallout 3 patch.
NaboeN
For a more FO 1/2 feeling, FOOK does have ALOT of new weapons and many of them are from FO 1/2 Also the armors uses alot more variables now making it more thinkingly to choose armor
doomboy536
Get Named. It's the one mod EVERYONE should have. Doesn't everyone deserve a name? ;)
Tadaa
If you are going to install only one mod, then the best one is of course the unofficial fallout 3 patch, and then maybe GNR radio extender. XFO balance overhaul and Refuge quest mod are worth to try, but I am not too sure about the FOOK, for me it breaks the immersion to see everyone armed to teeth in wasteland. I suggest that don't get too many mods for your first playtrought, because players are modding Fallout more towards Oblivion than the original Fallout series, many people don't know anything about Fallout series or lore behind it, so you might get some unwanted things to your game with overhaul mods. Biges
TGBlank, NaboeN, doomboy536, Tadaa, thanks for you replies!I think I'll install the unoficial patch and try the "vanilla" version. Then I'll play with mods. Edit: I have just noticed there are hundreds mods for F3... uh... I think it had crossed the line between a blessing and a curse. Just my two cents. About which overhauls are you talking?I don't see any overhauls that mod FO towards Oblivion (what does that actualy mean?).
Riddleofsteel
I think he means the emphasis on human beauty mods, kind of like a beauty pageant instead of realism or practicality.
doomboy536
I think he means the emphasis on human beauty mods, kind of like a beauty pageant instead of realism or practicality. Call me strange and silly, but I'd rather spend my time downloading new weapons, locations, NPCS and quests rather than more detailed genetalia, something that puts me at odds with a lot of the FO3 Nexus apparently. But yeah, here at the Nexus there's something for everyone. Hell, we even have furries now!
TGBlank
Still the oblivion comment hardly has to do with any overhaul. Most popular ones do:a) add varied weapons/armorsb) make the game harderc) make enemies more plentiful/variedd) increase overall damagee) add immersion elements, from weight on ammo to hunger and thirst. I dare you to find oblivion there. On the other hand, the recommendation of going light on mods the first time stands. You want to get a feeling of how your computer behaves without mods, and what vanilla features you wish to change. And add mods slowly, this way it is easier to spot problems and track it's source. and of course, fix them. Call me strange and silly, but I'd rather spend my time downloading new weapons, locations, NPCS and quests rather than more detailed genetalia, something that puts me at odds with a lot of the FO3 Nexus apparently. It doesn't put you at odds, as long as you don't go to the related threads just to troll. THAT does put you at odds with both most of the nexus and moderators. It's a live and let live environment here.
