Kellao
Okay got a new computer recently looks stronger than my old one I think. got a new graphics card too GeForce 9400 GT NVIDIA and NOTHING works. Teamfortress 2? NO! and then I tried Oblivion NO! but... Oblivion gave me this message: "Failed to initialize renderer.NiXAdapterDesc GetDeviceCaps()Failed." could it be my teamfortress 2 and oblivion problems are interconnected? what the hell does that message mean? do I need a new g card or something? dezdimona
it is most likely a Video Card Driver Issue... I'd suggest reinstalling the Video Card Drivers with the Newest Version...

bben46
Drivers are the programs that make the hardware work. Each part of a computer has one or more driver programs. The makers of each brand of video card release (make available) new drivers to fix problems that have been found. You need to go to the website for your video card to download and install the latest set of driver programs for your specific video card.Your error message "Failed to initialize renderer." Is saying the renderer portion of your video driver program did not load properly. This could be caused by a bad video card, a corrupt video driver or an out of date video driver. A little more information, such as what is your video card? and what driver version are you using? That information should be available from the documentation that came with your computer. If you don't have the documentation, give us a brand name and model number and we can usually look up the video card. With that information we can tell you where to find the drivers and which drivers to get. Note that some video cards will not run Oblivion, especially those built into laptops. You can either go to nVidia's website and locate, download and install the current drivers for your 9400GT card (preferred), or you can go into Windows Control Panel, locate device manager, then your video card, then tell windows to locate and update the drivers. Once that is done you need to reboot the computer (to utilize the new drivers), then locate the file Oblivion.ini (located in your ...\documents\mygames\oblivion folder) and delete or rename it. Then, when you relaunch the game, Oblivion will redetect the hardware (it will not recognize the card, and so will set video settings to medium). You then have to start a new game and make a successful save (in order to create a new oblivion.ini file). You can tinker with video settings if you like, but the .ini file will not update until you reenter the game and make a save.
BossDweebe
Letting windows do the drivers is not really a good idea at all.Get a tutorial from Tweak Guides.com on how to maximise your computer. He has guides that cover this kind of driver installation.
