Ygfbv
Quite possible I'll build this rig in December if I don't upgrade my current one in July. I'll be doing 4850 Xfire (keeping my current HD4850), and my current rig will be turned into a general webbrowsing rig. Think it'll handle MTAEVWD fine with QTP3r? Or should I go the 4870x2 route instead for that? I'm completely open for suggestions, but my budget is $1100. AlmostWhatIWant
I'll be doing 4850 Xfire (keeping my current HD4850), and my current rig will be turned into a general webbrowsing rig.First of all, great choice, the HD4850s are excellent for xfire. Kingston HyperX 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Desktop Memory (four)Some motherboards and programs have trouble dealing with 4 sticks as opposed to two. I'd say go 2x2GB instead of 4x1GB. Arctic Silver 5 Thermal CompoundArctic MX-2 outpreforms Silver 5 for about the same price. Acer X233Hbid Black 23" 5ms Full 1080P Widescreen LCD MonitorThats pretty high MS for a gaming monitor. I'd try to find one that is 2-3ms. Sunbeam Transformer IC-TR-US-BA-WOPSU Black Computer Case With Side Panel WindowDefinitely not a case I'd recommend. Look, I know a lot of what people consider with cases is if it has LEDs, looks like it came off a spaceship, has a window, ect. But these things have nothing to do with performance. You don't have to sacrifice aesthetics completely, but that case sacrifices cooling performance almost completely, and I'd definitely say try a different one. My CM RC690 is very standard looking but has a lot of cooling performance, and if you're dead set on a full tower, the CM HAF932 is a great case as well. Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive (two)I'd recommend you go with the 7200.12 500GB as it using a single platter which is much faster, lighter, less power. If you really want to go with two drives, those are ok, but definitely not the fastest ones around. AMD Phenom II X4 920 2.8GHz Quad-core ProcessorVery nice CPU, I definitely recommend getting an aftermarket cooler so you can OC it. Think it'll handle MTAEVWD fine with QTP3r?Sure. Or should I go the 4870x2 route instead for that? I'm completely open for suggestions, but my budget is $1100.Stick with the HD4850s. Much more economical, and they have great performance. Besides, your monitor isn't all that big anyway.
TheTerminator2004
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive (two)I'd recommend you go with the 7200.12 500GB as it using a single platter which is much faster, lighter, less power. If you really want to go with two drives, those are ok, but definitely not the fastest ones around. Unless he was planning to set them up in a RAID 0 configuration. Doing that would give similar speed to the single 500gb disk, but with no lost capacity. Which would be best really depends on which is easiest/cheapest. isra
Go for a modular 750w-1000w PSU in my opinion. Leaves room for upgrade. Two 4850s will have quite a high peak power consumption, I would guesstimate up to about 100-130w each.
AlmostWhatIWant
Corsair CMPSU-750TX 750W would be a nice choice. Although modular keeps things nice and neat, it isn't ideal performance wise.
