Dradum_Fairoak
I agree that it would be cool to take some leaves from GTA:SA's book as far as character development goes. I don't imagine getting fat would be an issue for most people as this game is obviously going to involve a fair bit of walking. But certainly food and sleep should be necessary. Also I'd love it if you drank too much Skooma and passed out and awoke three hours later. But I think I'm venturing into 'what I want in Morrowind' so lets get back onto races. I must say I'm not looking forward to an Imperial-dominated town. Walking down a street and getting non-stop 'Keep moving' or 'Yes?' or whatever they put in is going to annoy me to hell. To Oblivion, if you will.
Jenlyn Fayre
All the petty arguing aside (behave children!), I think I would like to see a human-type race that is decidedly Asian. I think it would be neat to have a ninja-like character! I see many human races represented in MW, but no Asians. No, I am not Asian myself, but I DO think they kick a-s, IMHO. I mean, MW has short swords, throwing stars, wasikashi (spelling, I know), etc. It just cries out for a ninja/awesome Asian fighter!
Abramul
That'd be good...but ONLY if we get decent martial arts, too. What morrowind had was boxing, for crying out loud!
Akrid
I hope for sub races, like Human break down to Asians, White, black etc. but maybe called Xians, Imperials, Blackguards so people don't get offended as they so often do. And they would each have their own perks. Then say Orcs would break down into berserker orcs, Rock orcs, Fire orcs or something And I would like to see a goblin race come along, they would make good thieves and spy's. Also their should be secret unlockable races like maybe a demon race that by accomplishing a mission in a secret demon layer you can play as them after you beat the game. Or better yet like vampires and werewolf's you should be able to become possessed It would be cool to have a demon inside you and if you don't get it exercised out you become evil and start feeding on peoples souls. The problem i saw in Morrowind was there was so much freedom that the game lacked definition. I would like to see more focus on the repercussions of having a particular race. For example if your a orc many places wont allow you in the city, and if your a elf you can enter sacred places like enchanted forest. It was very effectively used in the game Gothic, by not allowing you to go certain places the game felt large and mysterious, and that makes for good adventure. I think becoming a vampire should be not be like in morrowind, only certain races should be able to become vampires, because a vampire orc looks stupid, and it lessens the effect of being a vampire cause you already where a fantasy creature. Elfs could become dark elfs, and human could become vampires or werewolfs, or zombies, witch brings me to the idea of having some towns over run by zombies, that would be cool, if your a vampire you should be able to start a cult and have minions (like dungeon keeper) and you should be able to abduct people to have as cattle. There should be non playable races like maybe a Minotaur race, to add dimension to the world. Whatever they do I hope they make the game solid. The races will play one of the most important roles in the game.
Vbgraphix
I really like your ideas Akrid, but some would go against standard TES lore. They already allow redguards as a race, and that diversifies the humans. Other races cannot just be invented outta the blue really. Maybe just asian type faces would be appropriate. Or maybe some slight skin color options. Not separate races. Also, if you dont like how orc vampires look.... dont be an orc vampire. Simple as that. I really like your ideas on being possesed, and secret minotar and demon races though. This would not go against TES lore I dont believe. You can go further with this... robot races... horse races.... dragon races. And yes, setting up cults would be cool. I would love sacrificing virgin elvish women and have creepy hooded worshippers. A nice lair would be nice. I think the PC should be able to set up businesses, cults, and buy land. It makes sense and would allow the PC to become much more powerful in the tamriel universe. Geremeas
I hope for sub races, like Human break down to Asians, White, black etc. but maybe called Xians, Imperials, Blackguards so people don't get offended as they so often do. I see what you're saying but think of the implications (& controversy) that your proposed solution would have.... if you have different human races (black, white, asian, etc...), no matter what you call them, you would be giving them different stats. Give them different stats and, even if you keep them well balanced, you will inevitably be implying that one race is slightly stronger, the other slightly smarter, etc, etc... you see what I am getting at? It's unacceptable in this world of ours to claim one race is better than another at anything. Do, and you will have people (quite rightly) crying out to racism, with the serious possibility of the game being banned. What would be acceptable, and desirable IMHO, is to have various human cultures, like in MW, but during character creation give as options faces of multiple ethnicity for each human culture. So this way you would imply that the difference in stats is not genetic, but caused by the way the child is brought up & educated. For example, a Breton family could well bring up a black (adopted) child the same way they'd bring up their own white kid, hence they would have the same stats. Of course you could make a culture primarily white or black or asian (for geographical reason, for example), but giving the option to change appearance, would imply that the differences are not hard-coded in from birth. Which is the difference between a banned game, and a legal one. (Of course you could have different races and keep the stats all the same, but I like diversity! It's just how you explain the diversity that makes the difference! )
Abramul
But the differences ARE genetic. The Breton race is a crossbreed of Nord (or Cyrodiilic?) and Altmer or Chimer, can't remember which. Stick with faces, ok?
Luthiel_Dragonsoul
for races i agree with what everyone else has been saying really, the old races should stay but with more definition, one thing though that i thought was missing in morrowind, was religon (although i am a real life aesthiest) it would really devirsify the whole game, to have some people of your own religon dislike you, or have people of another religon not trade with you and such, although i guess it would be a little hard for everything to fit in with that, it would make things better. luthiel
Stormscape
You guys are silly. But what I still think Oblivion needs is... dun dun dun... fat old senile people mumbling about trees talking. :D
