jemiari
The title says it all. Short story long, Oblivion has been performing well on my PC. Bit of jerkiness when loading new areas, but nothing too noticeable. On clear days, that is. When the weather gets foggy, I my framerate is practically halved. Absurd because it isn't even raining and I can barely see anything through the fog, anyway. It's pretty much a darker sky with the LOD turned down. How could this be worse on the framerate? Anybody else experienced this issue and can offer some advice? EDIT: This isn't only an outdoor problem. Cities are affected, too, though not nearly as bad. UPDATE: Just terrible on rainy days. I supposed I could just force the weather back to being clear in the console if it gets too much,
jemiari
I guess the best solution is to upgrade. These are my current specs: Vista 32Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 ghzGeForce 9500 GT2 gig Memory (RAM) Will my performance be significantly improved if I double my RAM? Darkf0rge
Imo if you are on vista you need 4 gig's of ram to play games comfortably. 2 gigs is about minimum. One of the major reasons why I never upgraded to vista. It's bloated. Might go to Win 7 though
jemiari
I'll just get the extra RAM. Should've known that the minimum would barely cut it.
SpacemanSpIiff
its because vista has so many side processes that are running that 2 gigs on vista cant run crap. Meanwhile, 2 gigs running on XP is fine because XP doesnt have all that crap running in the background. The good news is you can use this command as a temporary solution, it will force the weather to be anything you chose, here it is fw (id) <---The ID is the numbers below, do not include the () or the * when you type it in. * 370CE - Paradise * 38EEC - overcast * 38EED - snowing * 38EEE - clear * 38EEF - foggy * 38EF0 - cloudy * 38EF1 - thunderstorm * 38EF2 - raining * 836D5 - oblivion sky
jemiari
That's exactly what I'm doing now, but thanks. I actually optimized my system by killing off a bunch of insignificant background programs, but apparently Vista is just too much of a resource chewer. roquefort
Sakura's suggestion will work, but I think there's a weather-changing spell mod if you want to retain immersion.. Vista is a pain. I just got a new laptop with it pre-installed. Don't like it. Bloatware. Fortunately my Oblivion is on a desktop running XP, and will stay there.. Qwaxalot
Adding memory will help, but be advised that 32 bit OS can only use 3.2 GB of RAM. You may be having more problems with background processes, a useful tool for testing is:. A Clean boot (a totally reversible process) can help by clearing all unneeded processes, then test the game. If the game now runs better, you can use task manager to locate offending processes. What's ideal is to reduce "used page file" size to something like 700 to 900 MB You can find this value by running "dxdiag"
jemiari
I couldn't find it under dxdiag, but the menu that leads to it pops right up with Windows Key + Pause Break.
Ranokoa
IDK if linux can run oblivion, i never tried, but i dont see why not. If you have another hard drive (best way to do it) install this very VERY small operating system and install a duel-boot program. restart the computer, and choose to book with linux. Arrange everything how you like it, and then play oblivion. VERY VERY little background programs being run, practically no bloat.
