FrenchieDwemer Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 (edited) Hi everyone, I'm having a rather bothersome issue while trying to get a helmet to work properly. Everything is fine as a matter of fact EXCEPT one strange glitch : when the helmet is on the side of the camera, it disappears. Period. Since it said a picture can be worth a thousand word... http://www.noelshack.com/2013-43-1382554764-issue.png I'm sorry about using a link but, well, for some reason, I can't get any noelshack/imageshack link to display properly. As you can see, at some point, as the sallet begins to get out the player's view, it simply vanishes into Oblivion as a whole. Of course, when facing it again, it reappears. Some would say it is barely noticeable, but, well. As soon as you begin to notice this in game, it pretty much ruins immersion. I mean, when the helmet of a guard walking beside you suddenly disappears into thin air, maybe it is time to quit sniffing moonsugar. You may have noticed this mesh comes from the Witcher pack. Well, I have tried a few other helmets from that mod and almost every helmet I tested proved to be messed up in the exact same way. Quite a pain considering this is almost the only medieval ressource on tesnexus, and I do want to give my guards a Middle Ages feeling. Has anybody got any clue about what could cause this thing ? Most I can do about meshes from Skyrim is tweaking them in NifSkope, I'm afraid. Could I fix this through NifSkope anyway ? Well, thanks in advance. Edited October 23, 2013 by FrenchieDwemer
ghosu Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 (edited) First i would compare it to the .nif of the original amor part you used as reference...all settings should match (except vertice count and mesh related stuff). On the other hand i only get disappearing armor parts when rotating/zooming the camera when i made a mistake in the weighting/skinning process.Always solved such issues by redoing this part. FrenchieDwemer Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Thank you for your answer. As far as I could see, everything seemed to match as it is supposed to do. As for the weight, does that mean this may be related to a single vertex among several hundred vertices ? And most of all - is a modelling software required in order to fix it ? I would be unable to solve this issue, then. My modelling experience is pretty much limited to Medieval 2 Total War, which is pretty basic when it comes to models, though I was able to perform a couple things in Fallout 3.
ghosu Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Well i'm no pro neither when it comes to armor but i would recommend to upload mod/nif so me or someone else can check it for errors.
FrenchieDwemer Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Well, the site claims I can't directly upload a .nif file, which is pretty odd. I don't really feel like registering to a file sharing site only to fix this either. If anyone is willing, and if that is not too much to ask, could you give me your gmail adress in a PM ? It would be much easier for me. Just use a rubbish one if you are concerned about anything.
ghosu Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 (edited) You have to pack it into a .rar archive using WinRAR or whatever and upload it to this site or a site like http://www.putlocker.com/ Edited October 26, 2013 by ghosu
FrenchieDwemer Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Thanks. Here you go, then. There are four helmets in there I was willing to use, which all suffer from the same thing, the sallet itself, a plain steel helmet, and two helmets I intend to use as placeholders for beast races.
