Osiris2010
I have been playing Oblivion with the Shivering Isles for a while now with no form of bug or anything, and suddenly now the Shivering Isles has completely stopped working. All my items and spells and quests including the island are ALL gone. In the data files it says created by 'nmcdyer' not Bethesda. I have checked over the internet and I am not the only one to have been kicked from behind by this massively irritating bug. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Oblivion and the Shivering Isles to no avail. I figure if anybody can fix this bug one of you guys can.
bben46
I think nmcdyer is Nathan McDyer, an associate producer at Bethesda. So it would make sense that his name could appear as an author. There is a bug that seems to mainly affect people using the downloaded versions and pirate versions. As I remember when you have either Oblivion on a disk and SI as a download or the other way. Have you installed the latest SI patch?
Osiris2010
I'm using the Oblivion GOTY version of Shivering Isles. Ahhh I will download the patch asap, I thought the GOTY version was patched already. Thanks I'll give that a try.
Osiris2010
Nahh complete fail at even installing the 'Shivering Isles Version 1.2.0416 Update.Comes up with patch error.'Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match.'I honestly dunno what has caused this problem, so out of the blue epic failure. Eshenaleros
uninstall and reinstall the game. And don't forget to uninstall shivering isles too. don't worry, as long as you don't delete data the folder itself, all of your mods should stay intact, but this will upload the unpatched version from your disk - thus, you can patch in in a new way, the new way being one that works
BionicRock
I could be horribly wrong but I think the GOTY version of Oblivion comes the latest shivering patch as I also get the 'old file not found. However a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match' error and the launchers technical support section lists my oblivion as already being up to v1.2.0416 (and the patch notes match the ones for the SI patch on beth's site). I have reinstalled multiple times in the past (for the sake of starting fresh so I can rebuild my mod list in a clean orderly fashion not because of any crashes mind you) and each time just to be sure I have attempted to use the latest SI patch and I get that same error every time (even after installing to C:/ rather then program files which vista doesn't like as much) so It doesn't seem to be an issue with bad installation on my part. Once again though I could be way way off base since I'm not exactly a expert.
Osiris2010
It is still not working. I uninstalled and reinstalled and attempted to install the patch and recieved the same error message. Anything else I might try?
Eshenaleros
the only thing I can think of is going to your oblivion folder, deleting the data folder, then choosing the uninstall option, then reinstall. This will destroy all your mods, but you can get them again - it's just a bit of work and a small price to pay for the awesomeness of the isles (that is, if you haven't gotten a horde of mods with over 500 MB, like I have) I suggest, if you do this, taking inventory of what mods you have so that you can get them again when you reinstall and just in case you're making the mistake, you should only patch with the shivering Isles patch, not both. I made that mistake, you shouldn't have to
Osiris2010
Thanks guys it's just started working now. I have no idea what caused it to stop playing up but all of a sudden after starting a new game a game day later it popped up. Sooo glad I didn't have to uninstall all my mods. Eshenaleros
I think I know. you might have patched original oblivion without the patch compatible for the expansion. because of that, the Shivering Isles patch viewed the game as already patched, and having one area patched while the other wasn't was causing problems. I was also apparently wrong about uninstalling the first time, as the patch data stuck around like your mods did. it wasn't until you completely deleted everything that it became workable again because it no longer had the patch data for regular oblivion telling the shivering isles patch it wasn't needed
