Low FPS in certain areas?

I've had this issue for a few years, particularly in the New Vegas strip area, but I tended to ignore it due to the fact I never spent any considerable amount of time there.

 

But I recently started the Old World Blues expansion and now the fps is tanking. I don't even know where to start. Is there anything I can do to fix it? My game has been fine otherwise.

It is very important to read the entire description page and make note of any special instructions.

 

The mod to examine closely is DOF Depth of Field. Especially this part "In case of problems (no DOF/bad looking): Make sure DOF is enabled in game options and use only one esp"
