Guest deleted6979893
http://www.tengujutsu.com/USERIMAGES/Katanabyandre.jpg I play as a samurai ingame. I know quite a bit of feudal Japanese lore and would be interested in a proper katana animation as shown in the spoiler image above. I could tweak it a bit to have a normal two-handed animation, sure, but that isn't satisfaction to me.
MostlyMuggie
Unfortunately, it is very annoying adding new animations to the game. The only way to do it is to replace an existing animation in the game since the creation kit doesn't allow new animations. So, all the 2 handed swords would be held like a katana. I am not really experienced in animations so if anyone could shed some more light or correct me, it would be appreciated.
Guest deleted6979893
In reality the katana would be categorized as a one-handed sword, ironically just held with two hands. This is the biggest old Japanese sword. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oT4N2FcBCZw/Tdo1FQFEQkI/AAAAAAAAAzw/9c0mT7eRCK8/s400/Nodachi+1.jpg Edited November 2, 2013 by undead003

And that one mod which changes the custom animation paths so that you can do exactly what you just said you cant do... Not to mention the NSFW mods as well :/ I actually support the idea of proper animations for different types of weapons, it is easy enough in the creation kit to change the animations a weapon uses, it's not just "all one handed weapons must use the one handed animation". I can see it being possible, however will someone put forward the time to research and animate all these different forms? that is the real question. It is an external program that searches through files on your computer, replaces an existing animation, then replaces it back when the new animation is finished. It could be unsafe to use a program like that since the mod can directly affect files on your machine. It can be a pain in the neck, and very buggy. If you want to take up the challenge of adding animations to the game without replacing existing ones, be my guest, but I have researched this extensively. It's impossible without FNIS. Then just use FNIS? I've been using FNIS since it came out and it's never bugged out or anything ever. I've also never heard of other people having troubles with it either. You're overcomplicating things by being paranoid about it.

No they're not, adding new animation to skyrim is fairly difficult to start with, adding new groups (such as some one handed weapons using one type and another using a different type) is probably one of the more difficult thing to do modding wise. I mean think about it for a bit, this type of thing (katana animation, broadsword animations, new animations for guns) is something loads of people have asked for in the past 2 years since the game has come out, and yet no one has made it yet. The reason? its too difficult... Also there is no need to be rude to someone who was just trying to inform you of the difficulties of what you were asking
Dominoes666
Yes you are right, Sorry that i came off as insulting. I just want the poor OP to know it's possible and he'll just have to wait for someone willing to take this heinous task on. I'd have a go myself but i can't animate :D but hell i taught myself to model so i guess i'll get there eventually.
