Save games are gone after upgrading to Windows 10

I know I know never touch a running system but I can't be true to Windows 7 forever.

 

So I upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10 (I did no fresh install!) since I didn't want to reinstall all of my software and do the tweaking stuff.

 

So far everything works and Skyrim starts as well BUT!!! all of my save games are gone. The files are still in the proper folder (C:\Users\Username\Documents\my games\skyrim\saves) but the LOAD button in the main menu is grayed out. I cannot click on this.

 

Does anybody know what causes this and how to solve it?

 

edit:

I've noticed something. All savegames have the suffix .skse but shouldn't it be .ess? Also all files are about 5kb but they should be around 20mb.
