This is probably something I once knew but have forgotten.

I'm making levelled summoned familiars and adding a version that is affected by the 'Elemental Potency' perk in the conjuration skill tree.

It's going fine so far and I want to repeat the exercise with other creatures summoned by the player.

I also want to make sure the player knows they have summoning 'Potent' creatures, in a visual way. I'd hoped to find a suitable vanilla FX shader, but no joy. Next I thought to duplicate the vanilla 'Familiar' FX shader and swap out for another vanilla gradient DDS file... no joy there, either. I couldn't see any I liked.

Hey, ho and c'est la vie! I can easily make my own in Paint.Net, but I can't recall if mip maps are necessary, or a no-no on such textures.

So, do I save with or without mip maps?

Thanks in advance.

You always want mip maps. No mip maps causes visual anomalies such as disappearing textures at a distance.

Lovely, that's all I wanted to know.

I've been years away from modding. Most things are coming back without even thinking, like riding a bycicle... this one eluded me!

Thanks a lot. Much appreciated.

Now to create my lovely familiars with a hint of gold!

Ow-oooooooooh! (Translation: the wolf says thanks)

'mipmaps' are crucial for the games performance since in a way they are the texture's LOD, and most important: They are used by a variety of a game's applications like 'Anisotropic Filtering'.
