One of the top mods I find useful is the handbrake mod by Zeibach. I think it won't be a bad idea to do a followup expansion for the locomotives. Especially DE6 would benefit from this. Also i suspect the air compressor has not yet been simulated so we'd need a "virtual" one much like the air break mod where it expands nicely on that system.
