RusMarine85
How to assemble mods and game saves? (for transferring to another PC) And so, there is the game Fallout 4 and a bunch of mods, body presets, programs like "body slide", "Creation Kit" and so on. Mods are set up, put in a certain order, this is done in "Mod organizer 2". There are saved games, settings for the game itself and everything else. And there is also a desire to replace 6gb / s sata with 10gb / s sata ssd and, of course, reinstall windows. Question: can I somehow make a mod build to transfer all mods and programs with all their settings and hierarchy to a newly installed Windows, so that I don’t have to install each one individually and re-do the settings? And also, what files and from which folders should I save so as not to rebuild the game and mods? P.S. I'm not going to violate anyone's copyright, I only need this for personal use when reinstalling the operating system.
StormWolf01
Hiya Rus :smile:Ok what you're wanting to do, is actually pretty easy. It's just kind of time consuming.Especially if you try to back up these files to a usb stick. Those are sloooooowwwwww...... :confused:It's pretty easy, all you have to do is just copy and paste. :wink:I dunno if MO2 has the option to launch the game or not. But I do know that f4se does. If you're using that, or MO2 has the option, you don't even need to have steam installed, or worry about putting the game into a steam directory. Just put it where ever you want to, and then use an alternate launcher. Ok here is the file locations and files that you will want to save. EXCEPT for MO2. I've never used it, so I dunno what it's files structures are. Game folder:Mine is a custom install, from when I upgraded to a newer hard drive. So mine is just C: Fallout 4.But you want to copy over the entire thing, The entire Fallout 4 folder. You want to copy the Mygames/Fallout 4 folder:C:\Users\WhateverNameYouLogInWith\Documents\My Games\Fallout4 Whatevernameyouloginwith, is the user name that you use when you enter in your password to start the computer up. Your save games, along with ini settings, some other settings, and stuff are there in that folder. Make sure that you get that into the correct spot after you reinstall windows. Your Plugins.txt file:This is the file the game uses to list what mods you have installed, and if they are active or inactive. This you must copy over, in order to preserve your load order.C:\Users\YourUserNameHere\AppData\Local\Fallout4\Plugins.txt Again, YourUserNameHere is what you use to log into the computer. Now I'll add in that if you use Xedit, it's going to give you a fit. What you'll need to do, it totally delete out it's files, and then drop them back in after you copy over all your game files. It will try to still point towards your old folder, if you don't. Good luck, and congrats on the upgrade! :D
StormWolf01
Oh, I forgot. I also keep a custom folder on my desktop, that has all of my fallout 4 shortcut icons in it.I'd recommend doing that too, since it makes some of it a lot easier. But when I set it up on a new drive, or a different computer, I have to go in and edit the shortcuts to point them to the new drive locations. 2nd thing I just thought of. For modding purposes, I use an alternate file browser. I use Q-Dir Explorer http://q-dir.comI use it, because it lets me open up 4 seperate folder locations, at the same time, in the same window. So when I'm copying my backup copies of the files, I can just drag and drop them over FROM the location on my external drive, TO the location that they'll be dropped into on the New HDD. Or just click to highlight the file in one window, tap Ctrl + C then switch over to the other folder and tap Ctrl + P.It's Nice. Not a necessity, but throwing it out there if you want to try it out
StormWolf01
Third opton. Just thought of this too. Is that you could just clone the drive that you are currently using. Use it as the source, and then use the new SDD as your target. That is of course, if you can have both of them hooked up at the same time. That would save you the problem of reinstalling windows. As it would automatically be copied over as part of the clone. There's free options as far as cloning software goes. But... you get what you pay for. I've been using Macrium Reflect for many many years, since my IT days. But, it's a tad pricey. RusMarine85
in MO2 all applications for fallout are launched and they should be launched only through MO2 (as it was said in the instructions). So the script you are talking about also runs from MO2. No, I can't clone a drive. Because I have to reinstall Windows. I experimented for a long time with disabling surveillance and unexpected updates, and so far I found a way - I killed the system, now it needs to be reinstalled in order to use the final method without harm. For now, due to the inability to install the framework update, I cannot switch to new versions of the programs that I need. Thank you, half of the problem is solved - game + settings. It remains to understand how to save the mod assembly. I don’t know if there will be loi for this, it’s enough just to transfer the folder with the mod from the appdata. Third opton. Just thought of this too. StormWolf01
Heyas Rus. Ok, I see. So part of the reinstall is to get rid of the nags and forced lack of control. I gotcha. I fully applaud you and wish you the absolute best with that endeavor! (Windows 8 on my gaming machine, because of that drek!)Mkay, its good to know that MO2 can also bypass the steam requirement. I know that NMM and it's successor, Vortex, along with F4se can do so. I also know that you can also just fire off the Fallout4 launcher.exe from standalone, as well. Ok, so since I dont have, and havent used MO2, please take This with a grain of salt. I literally don't know if it works, but unless MO2 makes a registry entry, it should. https://stepmodifications.org/forum/topic/5805-move-existing-install-of-mo-to-another-drive/ Short answer on it is to just copy and paste the MO2 folder, same as with the game files. Well, it remains to wait for the one who uses MO2 =)
StormWolf01
Hey again Rus! :)Hmmmm. You most definitely have piqued my interest! Thanks much for sharing! And the testimony! :D I've got this bookmarked. I'll definitely try that method out, I just need some spare scratch to find a good, legal, CHEAP win10 pro license. The lappy I'd test it out on, was a refurb and the seller didn't give me a key  (RN literally ALL of my cash is going towards getting outta here and into a cheaper state to live in!) But yeah, I'll definitely check into it. Again, really appreciate the share.Did you get everything transferred over ok?

These keys work even if you link the computer to a Microsoft account, they continue to work after the update, which means that they are legal. the price is a few dollars. I have not translated yet, because I did not find information about the transfer of the MO2 mod.
