Starting new game - HELP!

Hey Guys,

 

So after playing modded skyrim with no dlc for a while, I finally decided to download the legendary edition with all the dlc and mod the game from scratch.

 

I thought I was doing a pretty good job, carefully installing a mod, mindful of the load order. I used wrye bash and tesv edit to create bashed patches and clean dirty edits.

 

To my frustration, something is causing the game to crash. It's either CTD's or just the screen freezing. It's pretty game breaking and I can't work out what's going on.

 

Here is my load order, if anyone can provide any insight I would be very grateful.

 

Also, BOSS says that a number of the main esm's have dirty edits... should I clean them?

He has to trim down this list considerably. There are a lot of spawn mods, half a dozen of mods affecting lightning, all cities are changed, tons of script intensive mods, mods missing compa patches, plus skyre with a pretty random load order. It would be a miracle if this runs without problems even on a monster rig.

Well it's only 146 mods - I've played crash free with more than this before.

 

I do have a monster rig but agreed, when skyrim wants to be difficult, even my rig has troubles.

 

the load order is what boss sorted it into and I have all the compatibility patches that I need for the mods I'm running... which am I missing?

Sos is missing a patch for elfx and cot.

Elfx is using a couple of own meshes so you need to check if there is a patch for your cities.

Youre overwriting the dungeonlighting of elfx with cot.

Skyre and skytest... skytest spawns and controls animals but the ai part is overwritten by the skyre enemyai because of loadorder. Not sure if those 2 mods can work together without a compatibility patch.

 

I dont use boss... I would definitly put reproccer and bashed patch as low as possible.

well I tried everything you suggested, got the compatibility patches, uninstalled sky test, uninstalled sos - this was running for about 10-15 then it crashed.

 

I just uninstalled CoT, now it's crashing almost immediately, in a new game... I think I f*#@ed it... I've f*#@ed the whole damn thing, after many hours of the last week trying to get this right, I can't for the life of me figure out what the problem is.

 

This is such a nightmare....

 

If I uninstalled everything, then started again - would that work or do I need a fresh install of the game now that I've overwritten so much...?

I don't know if you'd need to go to that large of an extreme but, it would be effective, if a bit time consuming. I would advise that you go back to the pages for all the mods you've grabbed and thrown in and look over them carefully to see if there's any reported conflicts. If there are, check to see if you have those mods installed as well seeing as, like someone has pointed out, you've got a ton of mods that are basically fighting with each other over how your game runs. I also noticed that you're using a lot of pretty resource intensive mods. It could be that you're simply pushing your computer harder than it can handle.

Yes, its a bit harder at the start but later it pays back hundred times.

You dont have to install skyrim a new you can revert back to vanilla using the step guide http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Make_Skyrim_Vanilla_Again

Not sure whats faster though.

If you start new do not use any mods. Just plain vanilla setup, and save in helgen after the opening sequence. Now you can install mods. With MO all you have to care now is that your save game wont get corrupted. The problem of NMM that uninstalling and overwriting leaving a bunch of remains back is gone and sooner or later you will run into the next skyrim bug/crash anyway.

Install the mod basics (skse, fnis, skyui, skeleton, body, race, patches etc.) and make another save and never ever change these 2 saves in the future.

The only performance test of a mod setup I found so far is from vurt (the maker of skyrim flora overhaul). He suggested to check if your mod setup is stable, to open the console and:

player.setav speedmult 1500
TCL

tgm

Unsheat/sheat weapon and now run around for 5 minutes. If your machine can handle it and your mods working you should be fine. For example Im using an ancient rig overloaded with too many textures. I normally freeze in 1 minute. Good enough for me :smile:

Thats all I can say. If you mod skyrim you will run into problems, no way around.
