Please help with FNV vanilla followers un-hireable issue in my mod?

Hi there. I'm having an issue with my mod where vanilla companions cannot be hired, though I never touched VNPCFollowers or any of their stuff. For example, one can repair ED-E, then when he talks to you, there is a blank line where you should be able to hire him, and "Log off." I am told some but not all other companions are similarly affected.



I am a humble novice and would super appreciate any wisdom anyone can share!

Does your mod have followers that use the vanilla Companion limit variables ( Bhumanoidinparty or Bcritterinparty), or otherwise try to keep vanilla followers out of the party?

 

Also, what do you mean by "blank line"? like the option is missing, or it's there, but the textfield is empty?

I have a companion, Four Dog, but his script does not use those variables. And when I tried to hire Ed-E, I did not have anyone hired. I do use P04CompanionFireQuest at one point early on to send any vanilla companions home, but it's only supposed to execute if they are hired, and I hadn't triggered the event that starts that quest. It uses "Set VNPCFollowers.bHumanoidInParty to 0" in its script.

 

I mean there's an empty line where it should say "Follow me for adventure!" but there's no letters and I think you can't even select it or it does nothing.

The vanilla FollowersHired topic remains untouched in VNPCFollowers quest. ED-E and everybody else is still in there, not overwritten as far as I can see, unless by adding Follower topics to my quest somehow disables the ones in VNPCFollwers? I suppose I could move all my follower's Follower topics to VNPCFollowers and check... I had added the follower topics to my companion's quest like you do with GREETING or all the combat/detection topics.
