Setting a parent master?

Ran into another wall today with a weapon tweak mod I've been trying to make... one that I'm sure is simple to get through if I could find the answer. How do you set another plugin file as one of the parent masters for your plugin? Right now, all I have is fallout3.esm as a parent master, but I'm trying to make modifications to one of my other favorite mods (specifically, the weapon mod kit) without actually changing that mod, itself. Currently, if I do it without setting the parent master, all my changes become "duplicates" of the intended guns, instead of replacing them. Thanks in advance!

Thank you! That does help me a bit on the way to the answer to my problem. The only thing I'm having difficulty with now is exactly how to use the FOMM to make the file a master. And when I do it, won't there be a problem with the file looking for a .esm file instead of a .esp? I know there's a way to make .esps masters because I've seen other mods do it. Once I figure that out, I'll be all set.

esps can never be masters, that's hard coded fact. esps can be turned into esms though using FOMM's plugin editor save - "save as" - Master File.

Hmm... sorry to keep harping on this one but I'm trying to learn :)

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4643 This is the mod I was refering to. When loaded in GECK, it lists WeaponModKits.esp (NOT .esm) as a parent master. Is that just another glitch or is there something I'm not seeing here?
