Indifference and demotivation

I will speak only for myself; and I'm sure other modifiers will understand me.

I have created ten MODs. On the usefulness and valuation that each one of them has, it is not up to me to comment. Some have thousands of downloads. However, when it comes to endorsements, none exceed 5% of unique downloads.

Skyrim without MODs is not the same game; neither better nor worse... I don't think about it either; yes, surely, with MODs, much more entertaining and varied.

Creating a MOD is not an easy task even when, as in my case, it is fun. In addition to the well-known difficulties in relation to the tools available, creating a MOD requires a lot of study and a lot of time.

I have many new projects. On my desk is the script of those MODs already published that I have the idea of improving... But I really feel a certain indifference and devaluation, in general, towards the task of the modifiers and I wonder if it's worth continuing to publish.

Each download, I insist, each one of them, I feel like a prize. After all, that is the goal of the task. It was worth it, I tell myself.

What is an endorsement for Nexusmod?

"An endorsement is the easiest way for users to show their appreciation for a mod. These endorsements are counted and prominently displayed on every archive page, which can help users find files that the community has found useful or pleasant." https://help.nexusmods.com/article/45-what-are-file-endorsements

And I want to note the last part of the Nexusmod definition: "...which can help users find files that the community has found useful or enjoyable."

I wonder: why does someone who downloads a MOD and uses it for months or even years, not endorse it? Is it laziness, disinterest, indifference? Is it good in my game but not good enough to be in someone else's game? Is it good but not good enough to endorse it? Is rare. I think it's just laziness.

Recognizing the work of the modifiers should be an act of good coexistence. If a download motivates the modifiers, an endorsement doubles that motivation. Creating and continuing to create MODs requires that those who dedicate their time and effort to it, be highly motivated.

Those who enjoy community MODs should think that with an endorsement they benefit themselves.

In life, I endorse those things that I either find value in or is at least valuable in that it worked as advertised. Be it a lawnmower or a food product or a mod.

I've installed well over twice the number of mods I actually use. Some were just plain broken. Some simply interfered with other mods in my load, some I found were advertised as something but turned out to be far less than what they suggested. These, depending on my mood, either get ignored, (indifference) or downvoted.

Having said that, at the very least, I've endorsed 90% of the mods I've tested/tried.

But human nature is such that when looking at the general population, maybe 20-30% "get involved". How many people call <insert company> to express their concerns or anger about some product change to their favorite food....? maybe 1 in 100. **maybe**. Most people are lazy. I'm retired and most are even lazier than I've become. At least I have an excuse, since I'm physically hobbled.

Point is, don't take it to heart. Do what you love to do. Do it well. Try to ignore or overcome the frustrations, because frustrations aren't gong to go away. Yes, we hear about the chosen few who never face adversity or who magically gain unquestioned accolade. Some people aren't most. Most people's accomplishments and contributions go overlooked for their entire lives, outside a small handful of family and friends.

Best wishes and thank you for creating mods. Even if I don't happen to use any of yours (to the best of my knowledge)

It is laziness or they just forget about it, very few people come back to a mod page to endorse unless there's an update and even then most forget it or don't do it.

Thing is you can endorse from within MO2 manager and before that from Nexus Mod Manager, I didn't try Vortex yet but I suppose you can endorse from there too, so forgetting about it is no longer an excuse, it's just plain laziness then.

Endorsements are nice to get because for the non paid mod authors it gives a sign of 'hey we appreciate your work, thank you!' and you're motivated to do even better next time. But endorsements shouldn't be your goal though, even the most popular mods only have an endorsement rate of about 5 to 9% so it's not you, it's the standard it seems.

Mod for yourself first most and for the enjoyment you get from it, then you decide to publish it or not and all what comes after that is a bonus. Don't get burned out or depressed by focusing too much on numbers you perceive as negative, it will take the joy from modding away. Instead take a little break and remember this is a hobby, not a job! Once it begins to feel like a job then it's time to rest. Just my opinion. Do with it what you want
