Well the original uncompressed size was at 64Mb only, engine fixes when you activate the setting doubled that to 128Mb which was more than enough before the .esl or .esp-fe files where a thing, nowadays more and more people with massive load orders hit that barrier also. It's the final barrier that's still in place for Skyrim modding. To be honest only people like you and me with crazy load orders hit it, probably not a very big percentage of players. I don't know if it's technically possible but I suspect it is, to raise it to 256Mb, but the engine fixes author isn't been active for some time now and if he ever updates I suspect it's going to be for the latest Skyrim AE version only, which wouldn't help in my case since I'm staying put on 1.5.97. There is no way I"m going to upgrade a load order of 4k+ mods with 251 esp/esm"s and 2933 esl's I worked on since 2016 lol, would take me months or maybe a full year, not going to happen. Edit: BTW, I thought I was crazy but a guy on reddit claims he hit another barrier: 255 esp/esm + 4096 esl's lol I wonder how much Mb his new game save is.:D
  2. Follow up to this old thread: Started a new game with Dyndolod Alphja 3 built and activated: 47Mb uncompressed!!!! (I have many new land mods and choose the highest settings), that's level 1 standing in the alternate start prison. Started a new game without Dyndolod: 30Mb uncompressed!!! Same modlist (without dyndolod .esp and .esm of course and the generated output deactivated), that's a difference of 17Mb lol! Changeforms size are at 7.2Mb in both saves, the papyrus section however is where the 17Mb difference is: 22Mb without Dyndolod, 39Mb with Dyndolod. My first save is still massive without Dyndolod though, but the difference is way more than I expected... sigh... should I say goodbye to my beautiful lods or keep them and max out the 128Mb save game limit for the third time.... argh.

Hell no, I hated Fallout 4 for it's base building (well among a dozen other reasons but yeah), I just want to do quests, kill things and get loot, if I wanted to build things there's a dozen better games to do just that. If Elder Scrolls 6 includes mandatory building like Fallout 4 it will be a hard pass for this one.

So if I understand right it will use your full Vram to cache stuff to make it easier to load it later, but it won't go over your vram limit? Like say if you have 24gb and it's using 23.5 and it needs to load some other stuff, it will just get rid of some of the stuff it's cached already to make room without trying to cache even more stuff in there, thus exceeding your vram limit? essentially i mean it will use as much vram as is available to carry out some functions but won't exceed it? yes, that's exactly right. It uses the entire available Vram as a cache and empties/updates it when needed. When for example I'm in Whiterun and the 24Gb is almost entirely used and I then fast travel say to Markarth, when the loading screen appears and you have the FPS and Vram stats from SSE Engine Fixes (or was it SSE display tweaks? don't remember atm) enabled on your screen you can actually see this process taking place, it empties the a bunch of the cache and loads then the markarth textures into it. When you're in the wilderness and change cells to a dungeon for example then this process goes a lot faster depending on how much Vram your graphics card has onboard. With my 3090 this is almost instantly, on my older pc with a 1080 it takes a lot longer.

  6. My 3090's 24Gb vram is completely in use when I play for a while, so as Leonidas said it's caching stuff in there, in any other game on highest possible settings I never cross the 12 Gb mark.

  8. Ordinator has a perk called 'deep storage' in the alteration skill tree, it's a master level spell which provides you with an unlimited weightless storage you can access from anywhere, maybe take a look at how the perk/spell was made or scripted should put you on the right track.

I had that problem also a few years ago, since back then I was too lazy to write solutions down I can't tell you exactly what I did, but I remember I changed some values in either skyrim.ini and/or skyrimprefs.ini or both of them pertaining to allow a bigger memory buffer for audio playback, I remember also searching for more than a day in google lol. So it's definitely fixable without having to reinstall anything. So maybe look in google for skyrim audio memory increase or somethiong among those lines.

I went through every plugin, dyndolod instances are exactly the same as in the level 67 save, so yeah there are a lot of instances but they don't grow during gameplay. and of course skyrim.esm sits at 32k instances to start instead of the far bigger number at level 67, which is normal. Problem is the papyrus section of the savefile, it's already 35.8Mb big, changeforms at 6.6Mb is normal I guess. I would want to see the contents in that papyrus section, I mean when the scripts load the first time in a new game, I think my game (the VM) is getting flooded and it overflows and dumps a bunch of unusable stuff in my savefile and it stays there as baked in bloat. I however have no idea how to get in there to look. Also each time my savefile took a huge growth it was right after a script went haywire and the VM overloaded. For the times I was aware of this It happened once with dyndolod, once with js emissive eyes but more troubling several times with the dragonactor script when I killed a dragon but it's corpse fell of a mountain and I wasn't able to claim it's soul, the damn script replicated itself and put over 25k of suspended stacks in my save, which were cleanable with resaver but the papyrus section bloated a whole bunch of Mb each time it happened.... to be continued I guess.

Yeah good idea, well the elephant that fills up the remaining instances is the sum of all the smaller mods in my load order about 2700 of them so even if 1 mod of those is only 0.1% of the instances if you do that * 2700 it adds up to a lot. About Dyndolod I must specify that I didn't rebuild it for a long time now but as I didn't see any bugs in the lod or missing stuff I didn't even after adding a lot so I keep delaying it. I don't like building dyndolod, it's first of all very time consuming with a load order like mine, 5+ hours on a very fast system give or take. But I'm also scared it's going to add even more instances after rebuilding it and make my save completely unplayable.... will do the compare thing first, that's going to keep me busy for some time still.

  16. Above is the summary of my last save in resaver, check the script instances 482k.! I checked number of scripts by plugin and besides Skyrim and the DLC's it's Dyndolod that has the most, followed by 10-15 big mods like Vigilant, Beyond Reach, Bruma etc... I looked for a user manual or a how to for resaver but didn't find any, because for example the script instances are sorted alphabetically by default so plugin scripts are mixed in the output, also I'm not sure what I'm looking for exactly, empty forms? spawned actors with an id starting with FF (Skyrim Immersive creatures for example does that a lot) and more importantly which ones are safe to remove?

Yeah, I guess my load order has some problematic mods with script bloat, when I start a brand new character with alternate start, spawn in the old prison cell, create my character in racemenu and save my first save is already between 30 and 40Mb big, that's not good at all. I'm going to take a look at the script instances somewhere when I have lots of free time in April or something, right now I have barely time to play. Will report back here if I find strange things when scanning the script instances when I get to it.

There is definitely a limitation but it is 128Mb with engine fixes savegame fix enabled and 64Mb without it, my current playthrough reached 95Mb save and I'm level 67 but I have a megaton of mods (over 4k with 2.5k enabled in esp, esm and esl the rest are graphics like meshes and textures or animations) so it's not normal your save breaks at around 60Mb unless the engine fixes fix is somehow not enabled, then you're hitting the limit. Edit: you can slightly reduce the size of the savegame by selling all the stuff you don't need and cleaning your save with resaver to clean some unatached scripts ofr formid's but it's bandaid, don't expect miracles, maybe a few Mb less max.
  19. It is laziness or they just forget about it, very few people come back to a mod page to endorse unless there's an update and even then most forget it or don't do it. Thing is you can endorse from within MO2 manager and before that from Nexus Mod Manager, I didn't try Vortex yet but I suppose you can endorse from there too, so forgetting about it is no longer an excuse, it's just plain laziness then. Endorsements are nice to get because for the non paid mod authors it gives a sign of 'hey we appreciate your work, thank you!' and you're motivated to do even better next time. But endorsements shouldn't be your goal though, even the most popular mods only have an endorsement rate of about 5 to 9% so it's not you, it's the standard it seems. Mod for yourself first most and for the enjoyment you get from it, then you decide to publish it or not and all what comes after that is a bonus. Don't get burned out or depressed by focusing too much on numbers you perceive as negative, it will take the joy from modding away. Instead take a little break and remember this is a hobby, not a job! Once it begins to feel like a job then it's time to rest. Just my opinion. Do with it what you want

Thanks for the thorough explanation @scorrp10, the script that kept replicating itself this time was the dragonactorscript from Deadly Dragons mod, like described here: https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/u4f4cp/dealing_with_dragonactorscript_stacks/ To fix the suspended stacks I did the prid, disable, markfordelete routine described in that thread and it worked but alas the savegame is still 91Mb big now, I guess that or other scripts already bloated my savegame several times without me noticing it, I will continue to monitor it though, to see if I can catch other scripts doing that. 11Mb for a level 60 character savegame wow, that's a dream for me, now I'm constantly on my toes in fear of losing my character again when it reaches the 128Mb limit.
  21. Follow up on the 128Mb limit problem, currently I am on a playthrough where I reached 90Mb savegame file and 75Mb of it sits in the papyrus section of the savegame. Yesterday I was playing and I saw the message 'VM overload' appearing for a long time in my UI (SSE Display Tweaks set to show the fps, vram use and the VM status) and I had tons of lag. So I saved, went out of the game and loaded my last two savegames in resaver to check things out. Low and behold my last savegame was now 101Mb big and the papyrus section grew by 11 Mb in a few minutes delay between the saves! I also had over 14k suspended stacks from a script that probably misfired or was caught in a loop. I am convinced Skyrim writes 3/4th of crap like this in the papyrus section of it's savegame. This time I noticed it because it was extreme but I'm sure sometimes I miss it when the script load isn't as heavy as this time... Now by selling stuff you don't need anymore, taking off throphies from wall displays and other things like that the savegames deplete only by one or two Megabytes max, and it's the formid section that depletes but the papyrus section remains as big as ever, so eventually what makes the savegame run out of space is the papyrus section growing over 100Mb. And no way to clean it that I know of the cleaning functions in Resaver all take care of the formid section not the papyrus one. Worse thing is that when I now start a new character with alternate start and save, my initial first save is already over 40Mb big, right from the start lol. Imo it's because of all the scripts firing in the beginning of the game due to the insane number of mods I have. I will test more, I plan on starting the game with a minimal ammount of mods, then save, activate more mods, load, rinse and repeat to see if it will be also 40Mb after doing this, I bet it won't be. TLDR: It's the scripts throwing suspended stacks that makes the papyrus section of the savegame inflate like a balloon, if someone finds a solution for that I guess that will be mod of the year lol.

  23. 3279 installed modifications in MO2 left pane, 2470 plugins, I have 3 bashed patches due to the 255 masters in an esp limit, all handling different bashes + an esp I made myself to consolidate things. It runs as stable as possible, I have the occasional CTD with an error code in netscript framework that I can't find info about anywhere, it has something to do with the pathing manager for npc's that gets overloaded as far as I can make up from the log. But with that amount of mods there's something that will screw you (it already screwed me before) and that's after 70 or so levels, so 500+ hours in my play style and that's the save game maximum size of 128mb with enginefixes.... once it reaches that size it's game over for that character. The save game is no longer loadable.

Glad to see I'm not the only one with that problem, had to abandon one of my characters because savegame got too big, unfortunately I have no solution., the savegame is the sum of papyrus and formid's, I noticed the papyrus thing is way bigger like 4 times the size of the formid's but I have no clue how to shrink it.

Found the culprit, for some reason, probably as a penalty for using the shout against immune ennemies, the mod Ultimate Shouts adds a strong stagger effect to the player after using Fus Ro Dah shout VoiceUnrelentingForceEffect03 (7F82F) if the target is immune to it. I mistook the stagger effect for a dance lol, I just removed that condition from it and now no more dancing.
