Simple standalone backpack mod

Would it he possible for someone to create a standalone mod for a backpack.

There are only a couple of decent backpack mods on Bethedsa.net for Xbox, and as good as they both are, they are large files with many, many different styles and options, nearly all of which I don't use.

The other option is to use an outfit mod that comes with a backpack, such as Militarized Minutemen, or one of the myriad of "tacticool" mods that make your character look like they were plucked out of Call of Duty. Again, same issue, I can't justify using a 100mb mod, with loads of outfits and accessories, just to use the backpack.

All I'd like, I'd a simple standalone backpack mod, which gives you a Survival backpack, like a hiking rucksack for civvie outfits and maybe some a Burgen style backpack that comes in olive drab, black or tan for military themed outfits.

Thanks

A 100mb mod is to big? Really? That's nothing, imho. & it ain't the meshes, but the textures that add to the file size.

the average 'HD Vanilla' texture is a 2K, 2,66MB file. (and that's at least x3, for diffuse, normal & specular)

Most modern mods use 4K textures at 21,3MB a file. (x3 is already 60+ MB, for just 1 texture...)

so, a mod with olive, black and tan textures in 4k is already at least 191,7MB in size. (unpacked, of course)

in 2K (which might look blurry up close, for weapons and clothing) it's ~24.

Where even a complex mesh is unlikely to exceed 1MB.

So, those 100MB mods, are using 2K, and about 12 different textures. or 4k with just one. (but then you wouldn't have any choice of color)

Thanks for your reply, I'm no expert when it comes to modding, or computers in general, normally if I just look at a PC, it just bursts into flames. Which is why I stick to Xbox.

I understand what you are saying, but for Xbox 100mb is a fair chunk of our allowance. There are mods in xbox that have a while array of outfits and accessories and are usually between 70mb - 150mb, some can be nearer 200mb. For example, Militarized Minutemen, which is about 120mb. There's a newer one that adds Marine BDUs and a couple of outfits and helmets, that's 52mb. There's one that adds US Vietnam War gear, including fatigues in about 20 different varients, helmets gasmasks, rucksacks, webbing, boonie hats, bandanas, that's about 80mb.

So forgive me for my ignorance, but based on above, I didn't think a standalone backpack mod with a couple of different textures would be that big.

Ah, xbox. Yeah, I see the dilemma.

On PC you could just downscale the textures, or even add extremely small empty ones for the stuff you don't use.

Or delete them and modify the .esp (never ever give it away though, unless the author gives you permission)

...but that's not an option on Xbox.

Which also means I can't help you there. No xbox will ever be mine. (unless I could only choose between that and anything from Sony  )

"Most" should have been "many" btw. 2K still is a relative standard for a lot of textures out there. Especially for consoles it's probably best not to exceed that.

In which case your standalone mod with 3 colors would be ~24MB of data. (not sure how much compression you'd get from archiving it in a .ba2 file (which is a must I guess for Xbox) so it would definitely aid you to save on your 'allowance' .
