Created wiki article 'Modifying Textures - XCOM:EU 2012' from the above discoveries.

Note that I found the Universal Modding Engine (uMod) is supposedly the direct successor to Texmod (now on release 2.0alpha). (Source: Open Texmod/uMod Project page.) Anyone with any experience with that tool: please let us know if it works or not, and if there are any differences in implementing it that should be noted.

Along the same lines as above, I found the following link to TexMod AutoLoad

http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?p=4854682

Once you set it up, this program is supposed to allow you to automatically load the textures with TexMod and then start the game with a single click. I could not get it to work, but if anyone has any success in getting it working for XCOM pls share with us your experience.

Regards,

Thanks. Added that link to the article.

I've tried uMod, but unsuccessfuly.

There are more ways how to start a game with uMod:

  • start from uMod - didn't work because of XCOMLauncher; and XComGame.exe calling itself
  • use global hook - crashed my game after updating changes and loading a save
  • using d3d9.dll with a game - didn't find dll to swap for d3d9.dll

Hmm. DLLs are generally found in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. (On a 64-bit version of the OS that would be a 64-bit version of the DLL. There is also a 32-bit one in the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder as well.) If your shortcut link to start the game sets the default "start in" folder to be the <Steam install path\game version>\Binaries\Win32\ folder and you place uMod and it's d3d9.dll there, it should load that, unless perhaps something else had previously loaded the Windows provided version into memory first. (DLLs tend not to be removed from memory once loaded.) Shouldn't be a need to rename anything that way. You could put uMod's dll into each game folder needing it as long as you set the default folder for each game shortcut.

It would be helpful if someone were to test that out as well.

Dubious, I've copied uMod and d3d9.dll into XCom-Enemy-Unknown\Binaries\Win32\, disabled XCOMLauncher.exe, created new shortcut for XComGame.exe, but there's an error:

The procedure entry point D3DPERF_EndEvent could not be located in the dynamic link library d3d9.dll.

If I remove d3d9.dll from the folder, the game starts as usual.

I was not able to get uMod working with EU or EW.

Update: Tried uMod 2.0 r53 alpha and its d3d9.dll worked - the game started without error message, but using uMod (browse textures) crashed the game. Global hook crashed the game too.

Hi,

I am trying to get TexMod to work for my EW installation. I have followed the instructions on this link:

http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Modifying_Textures_-_XCOM:EU_2012#Texmod_installation_for_XCOM_EW

I launch from steam, then pick xcom ew from the launcher menu. This brings up TexMod, and I select the new textures (I'm trying the military retextures along with long war which I installed first). I click run and xcom we launches. However, when I load my saved game, I only see the old textures. So:

Does retexturing require I start a new game?

Anyone get this working with long war?

You might want to watch this tutorial to see if you interpreted all the installation instructions correctly. The first 4 minutes of that video cover installation and launching, and also show that you should be seeing in the upper left of the main menu display that TexMod is loading textures.

Any suggestions on how to improve those instructions from your experiences are welcomed.

Okay, no suggestions, your directions are very clear.

The problem wasn't TexMod, or the directions, but the texture packs I was trying to load. It turns out that the last EW patch broke both the Military Retexture Pack and the Tier 1 and Tier 2 Operator Retextures (I think they changed the address codes or something). But I loaded the Camo Mod with TexMod, which has been updated since the last EW patch, and it works. Thanks for the help!
