CompactDragon
Finally started modding and decided to work with the Skingrad House, upstairs. In the SE corner of the room I placed the chest on the drawers (see ViewFromCS.jpg) - yet in game the chest fell to the floor (see InGameView.jpg). Looking through CS and googling about this did not find any suggestions as to why this happens. Playing with all of the settings didn't get me anywhere either. While this is not what I want ironically it works as far as saving space: Both items are still functional and contain all of the items originally placed in them. LOL. Draco856
Hmm...I'm not a modder, but are they both set to have a fixed position? (Fixed position meaning, XYZ coordinates don't change. I also think the object should be static so it's unmovable.)

I tried setting the option "Persistent Reference" - that did not work. The only other option for reference is setting Parent Reference - and that option only allows the rug to be used as this. My guess is, since this is a container, it is not allowed to be set as static - or it would break the ability to interact with it... :ermm:
LFact
The container mesh itself is static, I believe. What you can do is, set z higher than current, then press F to make the chest sit on the drawer, and check it in game. Hmm...... Even if it's half buried in the floor, Since the mesh is static(unless some mod causing havok to every statics), it won't fall through the floor. Even if it's half buried in the floor, Since the mesh is static(unless some mod causing havok to every statics), it won't fall through the floor. That's what I initially did: Set Z above top surface of the drawers and then "F" - the chest dropped onto the drawers as explained in the tutorial I was reading. Yet in game it is sitting on the floor straight below where it should be on top of them. I even tried placing the chest above the drawers and not pressing "F" - to see if the chest dropped when the game starts. It does not - my save game I'm standing facing these items, when the screen comes on there is no movement at all - the chest is already on the floor. To clarify: Neither item is into are falls through the floor. Thank you for your input.
Vagrant0
Since the mesh is static(unless some mod causing havok to every statics), it won't fall through the floor. This is the only sense I can make of it in game unless they have a mod that makes everything else in the interior 60 some units higher. Did you link the chest to a mesh yourself, and do you have a mod that has havoked chests, or was the chest a copied version of a vanilla chest? If the container is havoked, try placing it so that it is floating slightly above the table instead of sitting directly on top. Incidentally, havoked containers actually sound like a cool idea... within limits.

I've just been playing with simple moving of items and seeing how that affects files/changes. Something I have noted: Using the Set Books mod the shelves and wine racks fall into the floor as soon as I release them. Maybe there is something going on here - what you referred to as havok having an effect on all statics? I've stopped playing with this particular mod but have been looking at other mods and getting a better understanding of the file structure. At one point while trying to do this chest stack mod I ended up with a version that was the first try - yet I couldn't find the ESP file that caused it. So I'll press on with the tutorials for now. Thanks all for your input.
