Custom Hair.

Hey everyone,

This is going to be a pretty poor first post, but for the life of me, I can figure out to add custom hair to my mod. I've got the texture files, the meshes, yet when I click Character>Hair and add it in there, I can't get it to be selectable on my NPC.

I've been scouring the internet for the past day or two, but with no luck on an answer... any suggestions?

Two things you may have missed: you have to make sure to select the "Playable" checkbox in the Hair dialog box, and you also have to actually add the hair to whichever race you want to be using it.

Hope that gets you fixed.

open up the GECK and find the hair mesh you are looking to put in the game. doubleclick / open its properties. In one of the first menus there should be a checkbox called Playable. Check it then Save Data, assuming you have set your custom hair ESP/ESM to 'active' (meaning, any changes will be saved to THAT file.)

CAUTION: when modifying stuff in geck, make sure you set your Custom mod esp/esm as Active, NOT fallout3.esm. If you modify Fallout3.esm bad bad things can happen. You have been warned!

When i downloaded a 20-piece hair pack, i just put the meshes/textures folder in the data directory, put the esp/esm in the data folder too. Then in game, go to your Haircutting robot in your Megaton house, and pick your hairstyle! ;)

You can't set esm files to be active anyway, and hitting save with fallout3.esm loaded just saves out a new plugin. It's not actually possible to edit fallout3.esm by accident using GECK. Well, maybe you could but it certainly wouldn't be something you could just do accidentally.

To add the hair to the race you want to be using it:

1. Go to the Race subsection under Actor Data and double-click on your desired race.

2. Go to the Face Data tab. See the Hair Styles list?

3. Now, with the Hair dialog box open as well, click your newly created hairstyle and drag it down into the Hair Styles list.

4. Voila!

Seriously, it takes just a bit of looking around and experimenting to figure these things out.

Hope that helps more this time.
