chanchan05
So I'm pretty new to this whole modding stuff. Previously only played the vanilla game and anything I side installed from Nexus were just bug fixes and the like, nothing that changed gameplay, graphics, or whatever. Recently I've been delving into more immersive and realism mods like Frostfall, RND, When Vampires Attack, etc. Since I've been adding these incrementally (initially via manual modding/installs, then Nexus Mod Manager), I was wondering if the game might be slowing down due to them. Skyrim's autodetect system says I can run the game on high settings, but I've been forced to switch it to low lately (previously played the game on medium). I had thought I can still play on medium since I had a little "performance buffer". Now I was thinking it might be due to the incremental installs. Was wondering what would happen if I uninstall Skyrim, did a new clean install of the mods but used my current save? All the mods currently active would still be active anyway, it's just a little cleanup. Kind of like a reg cleanup. You really don't delete anything except the loose files that may have been left behind by stuff you tried but had since uninstalled.
IsharaMeradin
In theory, so long as every plugin is present and active in the same load order as indicated by the save file, then it should work. You will need Wrye Bash to determine exactly what plugins are baked into your save and must be present in order to function. However, there is always room for other problems to arise. You may still find that with all the mods installed that you have to drop from high to low again. If that is the case, then you may need to consider cutting back on some of the performance heavy mods.
chanchan05
Ok thanks. I'll have to think on that. It seems like there's no going back if I do something wrong and would have to start a new playthrough if ever. Also I have only just now learned of STEP. Not really sure what this is, and I'm downloading the Wiki Guide thing now from NexusMods. Would you explain it better to me? It seems like it's a guide for enhancing performance and stuff. IsharaMeradin
I don't know much about STEP to be honest. They do have some good guides on getting your game back to a stock state and starting things over so reverting is much easier later. But beyond that, I really don't know. chanchan05
So I spent reading it and it seems a setup optimized for those that can play ULTRA, and it's basically a mod recommendation list. Thanks! Oh yeah, I managed to get it running on medium again with decent framerate after I turned off stuff on my PC that was running in the background (Outlook, Sugarsync, Dropbox, Skydrive, Send to OneNote and Evernote tools). I forgot I had all those stuff. I play my games in scheduled break times anyway, during which I don't use any of those. I can just reload the user after. Although I did only test it in Whiterun. Will have to see how the grass affects me when I go out. Edited November 15, 2013 by chanchan05
