The simple way is this, if it's a gun that shoots bullets, it's a small gun (excluding the minigun, obviously)

"Small guns" covers most of the weapons in FO3. If it shoots ANY type of energy or uses energy, it's an energy weapon. Though I'm not sure about the energy minigun, if it's classified as a "big gun" or energy gun. If it were really based off D&D rules as some people claim, it should be both energy and big gun and should do double damage :geek:

Yes, even the rifles are considered "small guns"

check the fallout wiki, unless youre talking about modded guns that youve downloaded.

big guns are the:

flamer

minigun

gatling laser

missile launcher

rock-it launcher

fatman

small guns:

any rifle/pistol type weapon that doesnt use energy

energy weapons:

any rifle/pistol type weapon that uses energy for ammo

exsplosives:

any disposable exsposive like a grenade or mine. these dont have any sort of firearm, the weapon itself is the ammunition

unarmed:

any cqc weapon that uses a punching or kicking animation while attacking-

fists

knuckles

powerfists

deathclaw gauntlet

melee:

any weapon that can be swung lke a baseball bat, sledgehammer, swordd, knife, and DOESNT use a punching or kicking animation.

Big guns is generally a loose term but it mainly covers things like ordinance and heavy support weapons.
