HOlyCrapOfGod
Okay, weve come up with the idea for a "Shape Shifters" race, basically with a "Take form" spell that will do a transfiguration effect on whatever casted on. (don't worry, we'll create our own script for this) it will basically consist of a pre-set stats, and the player will be transformed into any NPC/Animal the cast it on. but before we make this and post it online, will anyone actually use this? I mean, if we'd just made it for ourselves it seems like a bit of a wasted effort, so what do you think, Go through with it? :thanks:
AzirAphale001
Sounds good, I'd download it. But how would the script work?
HOlyCrapOfGod
Sounds good, I'd download it. But how would the script work? We have a person who does the script who called it "A walk in the park" but to my understanding, it would replace the player's meshes and animations with that of the target, by creating new races using the construction set and re-loading original meshes, the player would become a "Wolf Race." as their is a pre-set script in the console for "Race Change" the player would instantly change their race to the race. Using new animations, (Same concept as sephs hand 2 hand) the character would become an animal. although this will only work with the "Vanilla" creatures for the time being, (A later version with a much more complex script that essentially will add the given creature as a "playable race" will be released if we do this) in order to help with the "Lore" concept, the player's inventory will become "Locked" under an effect. sleeping will change the player backer to it's original form. As for the NPC's the player will essentially just change their race and features to match the NPC using the same "Race Change" concept. although custome race's will be playable as well. This is the basic funtion of the script to my understanding. The scripts will be attached to 2 spells: Change to NPC&Change to Creature The only real tricky scripting will be trying to hide the creatures from the original "Race Menu" inwhich the player chooses who he wants to be. and finally, a small script effect will cause a restoration effect after transformation in order to maintain the users stats. (Yes for about .1 of a second the player will have the "Begginers" Stats but don't worry, the scipt will kick in so fast that you won't even notice) And a back up spell will be provided, in which will be a manual re-instation of stats to ensure that on the 0% chance that the script doesn't kick in, you can manually re-instate all of your stats. (Don't worry, we've got it planend out perfectly)

Wouldn't ticking the 'Playable' box work, as that just hides the race from the Race Select menu? EDIT: Kudos for my 800th post.
HOlyCrapOfGod
To me, that sound like the easiest part. Wouldn't ticking the 'Playable' box work, as that just hides the race from the Race Select menu? The thing that makes that slightly harder than normal is the fact that merely clicking the box could put a wall up that would prevent the player from being that charater at all. Because were starting from scratch, and as with all of our teams mods, our projects are doing things with no references. Someone may have done this kind of script before, however, we havn't seen any mods with similar race scripting that we could use. In theory, unclicking the box and playing a race programmed to be unplayable could crash the game, not to mention that if we did this, unexpected problems could occur after releasing, which would leave us with a large society of angry modders who started and played this race, only to have their game lock in an unbreakable paradox circle that will leave them with only 1 option; restart the entire game again. Race mods are delecate, and may become dangerous if not scripted properly. I know it's alot of effort to evade the "Possible" but this is classified under "Better safe than Sorry." Although if this theory were to be proved wrong, it could save us alot of scripting.
Eshenaleros
look up Breeze's seducers. it can change you from race to race, setting you up with a special character each time, even changing gender. Plus, they can fly. Breeze did a good job with that one.

HOlyCrapOfGod
look up Breeze's seducers. it can change you from race to race, setting you up with a special character each time, even changing gender. Plus, they can fly. Breeze did a good job with that one. although they seem rather similar, that version appears to be a pre-set transformation, ours however, is transformin ito what ever you cast a pre-designated spell that will cause the player to have the exact same features of anything that has been cast. It will also cause the player to temperarly join the faction associated with the NPC/Creature. for example; you cast it at a gaurd ad you become a member of the guard faction. will greet you in the same manner they greet each other, anyone with a bounty you kill will be called an "Act of duty" by the scripting. If you become a bandit, bandits will accept you, but NPCs will shun you and guards will unt you. If you become a creature you ARE that creature, and you will be a part of the creature faction. Also the grey cowl of nocturn effect will be put in place so when you chang form, the player will loose all bounty associated to that. as well as a "Mistaken Identity" script we made for a private modding society could be used to place a bounty on the NPC who's form you took. AzirAphale001
How about a script that changes the race from 'not-playable' to 'playable' after the player has left the sewers? This may not work as some mods allow the race to be changed in the middle of a game.
