NV CTD on Startup

Again, you misunderstand what I have said. At no point did I say I was greatly skilled at modding, I simply said that the first chunk of what you told is me is something I'm already aware of because I'm somewhat used to modding. I'm not all that skilled, but likewise, I am not that ignorant when it comes to the basics of installing and running mods.

By no means do I mean to shoot down your advice, as it is perfectly valid. However, your advise came about crashes after I had ALREADY solved my startup crashing problem. At that point I was trying to find a way to seriously cut down on the number of mods I was running.

I do, however, admit COMPLETE ignorance when it comes to merging mods, it's something I've never done before, and am trying to get a grasp on. So no, I don't know what I can and can't merge, and I don't know what would be considered too big or radical to merge, and so on or how to do so. I don't think I've said anything to the contrary either. Hence why I've asked for any help in that category.

Also be advised that running the game with more than 139 active files is a big no-no, and unless you remove at least 23 mods from your current load-order, you will sooner than later begin experiencing major issues with your game.

I just hit 137 and bang, an unholy mess. When I activated the last mod I noticed the number and alarm bells rang but I couldn't remember why, upon my first fast travel I was reminded, it was at 137 it happened to me before. It does seem to vary slightly, I remember a guy in the imageshare who had just over 100 when he was hit by it, others seem to be able to get away with more than 140. Oh well, time to merge a bunch of stuff. :-(

Jim, I may be completely wrong, but if I remember correctly, loose, random files in your data folder are also counted towards the dreaded 139 threshold, even when disabled. I think you are in a great position to confirm/refute that theory.

I've heard that but I don't think it's the case, at least not for me. My folder has a ridiculous number of files in it yet the problem only occurs at that number, to test it I disabled one esp and the problem went away. I do remember 137 now and it was the number where it all fell apart last time, I've since added a ton of loose stuff yet that number has stayed the same.

Actually, I have a quick question on the 150 mod limit. Is this a limit based on total .esp files (that is to say equal to the index file?) or the load order number?

The number active and it's closer to 140. In NMM it's the number under "Index".

Are you loading any extra BSAs, Jim? It's speculated that they count toward that limit.

Actually less this time around, the first time it happened I was using a mod that added a ridiculous number of BSAs, that's since been removed along with it's BSAs. The number of BSAs doesn't appear to make any difference.
