Tango7Actual
In the Commonwealth the irradiated breeze rustles a piece of paper Wonderglued to a decrepit telephone pole. Drawn on the front the words MISSING DOG and a picture of you know who... The flyer promises caps to any who might provide information. Posted this at the Everyone's Best Friend Mod page, but thought it might get more traction here. So after sneaking around with Dogmeat and Nick, I returned to sanctuary. Nick was right next to me but Dogmeat wasn't. Didn't think too much about it (he sometimes was late after sniffing around) until I'd done a few more side quests and... he still wasn't there. Checked Red Rocket, made sure he had a house there. No Dogmeat. Slept in Sanctuary for 24 hours. No Dogmeat. Moved all the Sanctuary doghouses to the same yard. Left a bowl. No Dogmeat. Did some research. Built a Population Management terminal and used Overseer's Most Wanted to find where he'd been left (can't recall now while I'm at work). Found his location. Fast traveled and could see his locator pip, but the space he was in was blank. When I returned to Sanctuary I used console commands to force him to my position. He showed up BELOW our location. I could not communicate with him to try dismissing him. So I disabled clipping and went for a trip...to find nothing. Restored him using console commands and at least now his pip shows him on the same level - but he's still invisible and I cannot communicate with him (I've attached a screenshot of what I'm seeing). Tried dismissing Nick and then disabling the app to see if that would make a difference. No Dogmeat. Tried installing the Fall Damage Immunity mod to see if that would help - no joy. I tried submitting this last night and it kept bouncing rather than posting, so today I'm trying on a different PC and browser, and I have some additional info. I tried using the Cheats Console to teleport Dogmeat to the Starlite Drive-In, and got a message "ERROR: This companion is disabled for some reason". If anyone could help me find my buddy I'd appreciate it - might help my real world shepherd from giving me the stinkeye for abandoning my virtual best friend. ETA - GOT HIM BACK! Found a post on Reddit about "undo disable". I returned to Red Rocket, activated his tracker then went to console, typed PRID 1d162 <CR> enable<CR> and BAM! Mods, you may delete or lock at your discretion. Edited November 6, 2022 by Tango7Actual

StormWolf01
Aye, the "Missing dog" bug has been around for quite a while. And sadly, it's almost as common as the bug with dismissed companions not leaving. :sad:For future reference, or to others who may have the problem(s), I recommend a couple of mods.Companions Go HomeAmazing Follower Tweaks Companions Go Home has preset locations (where you met them) for them to return to. This helps out quite a bit to avoid that "dismissed companion bug". As well makes it pretty cool, that say... Piper really does go back home to be with Nat. Or Nick back to his office, to his secretary that worries about him. Etc etc etc. Amazing Follower Tweaks incorporates the exact same function, tho also allows the player to still be able to choose a location for them. It just sets an initial default of their original place.AFT also has a bunch of other features tho. Including teleport to, and teleport to me, functions. The latter of which, I've had to use several times.
