Skyrim GOG AE Edition - mod maker - TES5EDIT cleaner

1 hour ago, I finally got SSEEdit working. I'm using GOG Skyrim 1.6.659.0.8 and MO2. Downloaded from GOG, it installs without letting you pick where you want. MO2 does a virtual type install. OK, I'm new to modding but have some computer knowledge. A little at least. I have not changed my folder location for now. That's a later project.

This is what I had to put for my program shortcut on my desktop (as others have said "Don't install to "C:\Program Files" or any like it" unless it is required.

 

"C:\Users\jcoke\SSEEdit 4.0.4\SSEEditQAC.exe" -D:"C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Skyrim Anniversary Edition\Data" -I:"C:\Users\conra\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition GOG\Skyrim.ini" -P:"C:\Modding\MO2\profiles\Default\plugins.txt"

 

Maybe this actual example will help out. (It works for my set uo)

I shortened the folder&file name to "SSEEdit 4.0.4\SSEEditQAC.exe" and matched it in my shortcut.

GOG set where it installed to and I chose where to put MO2.

The "jcoke" is my user name on the computer.

The "conra" is the 1st owner of the computer.

 

SSEEdit was having errors when I would start it, until I got that shortcut "entry" set up.

I ran across olnorton's help for another person, realized it was what I needed and got to work. First try and it ran like a champ. Thank you olnorton. You are a hero.

There are two ways to download GOG games, one is with gog_games, at least I think that is what it is called. That is how you downloaded it, that also installs gog_games on your computer and installs the game in a default location which you have no control over. If you scroll down from that install preference you will see files that you download to your computer and then run the executable to install the game, when you do it asks you where you want the game installed.

Olnorton, my shortcut window is distinctly different than yours. For instance my Target Location is Skyrim Anniversary Edition, my Start in is D:\Skyrim Anniversary Edition.

 

Your Start in and Target Location both point to SSEEdit while mine point to where SSEEdit is installed. Where do you have SSEEdit installed? I have SSEEdit installed in my game folder where SkyrimSE.exe is . This is where I have installed xEdit in all my other games.

 

My Target is "D:\Skyrim Anniversary Edition\SSEEdit.exe"

 

I copied all the file into the main folder: (if you install using the gog installer, it goes here).

gog_games\skyrim special edition\

 

-I:"C:\Users\Username\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition GOG\Skyrim.ini"

 

I altered this line to direct it to right folder.

 

The shortcut wouldn't work.So, I just used the command line to start it after cd to the main GOG folder.

 

still doesn't want to see the 'skyrim.ini' folder

 

Also, the GOG AE edition. Doesn't have a plugins.txt folder.

Where is your gog_games\skyrim special edition located?

 

SSE AE GOG does have a plugins.txt, it is in the default location where Windows puts this games and all games as far as I know. it is C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Skyrim Special Edition GOG\plugins.txt.

 

The line you altered is the place where Windows puts that file by default.

 

For me at least the only difference in where Windows puts the files by default is the location of SSE AE GOG.

 

I realize that you are using gog_games and I am not but I find it hard to believe that just because there are those two ways to download the game that it would make such a difference in where Windows puts those files.

 

 

EDIT: pause I need to get to another system. While I find all the data folders....

 

GOG setup is very different. DVD editions,steam, and GOG run different setups. It's the nature of different companies. :(

I finally got it working! :)

 

I adjusted the line for a manual GOG install. I was able to autoclean the update and three DLC's. I still got messages to manually fix some items. I'll clean them again and see if it comes back. I tried about 20 more and they were clean. Only the GOG base files showed up in the clean. So, I figured out that the rest are in the MO2 virtual folder.

Last note, before closing this topic. "plugins.txt" is being reported as not found, but TES5Edit runs normally.
