Game crashes when game loads exterior cells

Sorry for the delayed reply, I did rename that file for FCOM when I started all this, but I did not have the compatibility patches. I installed them and now my game will not even start up. It just immediately crashes when I launch OBSE. This sucks because I think using the 4 gig patch would solve it for me (I accidentally patched OBSE and not the oblivion.exe). So I'm curious, do I remove the compatibility patches so the game starts up again and patch it properly, or could anyone see why the patches would suddenly not allow my game to start?

I dont think patching the obse. Exe will cause problems as long as the oblivion. Exe is patched. Did the same thing myself once but the game still launched. Best advice i can give is to disable every modded plugin and disable any bashed patch to see what happens. If that fails revert to a save just after character generation and see what hapens. If the game wont launch inside the starter dungeon it may be the instalation is corrupted. i always wait until i am outside the sewer before adding mods so that i have at least one stable save to fall back on without going through the pain of watching that stupid emperor get mugged again.

 

Edit....

If you disable mods that use texture replacers then follow archive invalidation procedures or else you may still get a crash!

Well, the game would start just fine before I installed the compatibility patches. If I don't have those installed what would be the major downside? I mean, I could live without those zones if it meant not having to patch and the game starting up. Also, I had patched OBSE a week ago and I know that isn't a problem, but I didn't know that I had to patch the Oblivion.exe for it to actually take affect. I think I'll disable the compatibility patches and the corresponding zones and see if it starts and works with the 4gig patch on the right exe.

 

Edit: Also, I don't start in the dungeon. I got the "Main Quest Delayer" mod which starts me inside a ship. I personally like that better because I can immediately exit the ship and see if the game will crash with all the external items loading in rather than drudging through the dungeon over and over.

 

Edit 2: I disabled all the compatibility patches and the corresponding zones they were patching and am still crashing the moment I click the EXE. This doesn't make any sense since before I installed the patches everything went fine (up until I got outside that is).

Are you rebuilding the bashed patch each time you add/remove mods? The only reasons I can think of that would cause the game to crash after installing the UL patches are 1. not rebuilding the bashed patch 2. incorrect load order 3. having a patch for a mod you don't use. (missing master)

 

The downside to not using the patches (without disabling corresponding UL mod) are primarily landscape issues. You will have things like trees growing from buildings, floating objects, and other overlapping statics.But you will also not be able to do some quests due to inaccessible dungeon entrances.

 

I recommend trying to get the patches installed and working. Having to limit your mod selection to things that don't require patches with UL is going to be a real pain going forward.

 

Discovery is correct, patching the OBSE exe will neither help nor hurt anything. I did it too. But unless your game was slowing to a crawl before it crashed, the 4gb patch will probably not fix the issue. I recommend using it anyways, but don't expect too much from it.

 

I also recommend disabling OBGE and OBGE Liquid Water while testing.

 

edit - This may sound silly at first, but run TES4LODGen. I very highly doubt that your problems are LOD related. But most problems that will cause a crash at startup will also cause the LOD generator to crash, but it prints a log that makes a pretty effective diagnostic tool.

Yes, I do rebuild the bash patch each time I disable/add a mod and I also run BOSS to re-order all the mods before doing so. Unless the patches were somehow not in BOSS's master list, the program should of re-ordered everything properly. I also double checked all the mods and I do have the corresponding master for the mod in question. As for the OBSE thing, I understand that, all I was trying to get across is that I had used the patch before on OBSE assuming thats what I needed to patch. I did not know that patching OBSE would not actually cause the patch to function because it needed to be used with Oblivion.exe. Also, my game doesn't slow to a crawl per se, but right before I would crash my game would definitely slow down as if it hit something it had to load and suddenly had to take a breather to do so.

 

I'll try disabling OBGE and the corresponding water though to see if that fixes anything. I also ran the TES4LODGen as well and it finished just fine and told me I could close the program. It didn't crash or show any errors that I could see of.

 

Edit: Disabling OBGE and Liquid Water and still crashing the moment I click the exe.
