How do I use parts of other mods?

I am making my first ever mod. Its going to be a huge hotel and club. One thing I want to do is use some armor and clothing from other mods on my NPCs. But I have no idea how to do this.

Do I convert the clothing and armor mods to masters and add them to my mods required masters list? Or is there a way to copy altered items from other mods into mine?

I also want to use the animation mods in my mod as well.

Hmm, for starters, i'd suggest you start a little smaller. If you want to do a hotel, fine, but start with the smaller parts:

Rooms that are in separate maps, kitchen, then experiment with cluttering and npcs and packages on said small controlled scenarios, stuff like that.

Get a hang of the editor and how to properly place tiles before making the large multi-floor parts.

As for the armor, yep, you can make it a master file (with fo3edit or tesnip), by changing a tiny little flag on the file header (file extension is irrelevant) and list it as master of your mod (the flagging is only needed for the geck to let you list it as master, the game doesn't care about it).

Or you could copy the items to your mod. It all depends on what are you importing: A T-Shirt isn't likely to get updated or somehow enhanced, a new power armor model is going to be likely to change over time and you may want to list it as master instead.

Thank you for the reply ...

I have a good handle on placing tiles. I planned the layout on graph paper before starting with the GECK. Finding the pices i need is a little time consuming for now till I learn them, but all in all doing the layout of the building isnt that hard.

Let me get this right ....

If I want to be able to use other mods in my mod and receive updates, I should go the master route? When an update comes out, just convert it to a master and replace the old one?

Also, I think I will take part of your advice about starting small. I'm just gonna build the building and put in clutter and NPCs. I will publish that then start taking it further. Adding more life and interation. Maybe even quests and things...

One last question for now .... This mod is going to be a multi-cell mod. Some indoors some outdoors. I have a good size room almost done. But I started the cell as an interior. I have changed my mind and want it to be exterior. How do I move the cell from interiors to be outdoors.
