Advice from Skyrim Modders on Linux?

Hello all, I am considering switching my OS over to Linux, the Pop! version specifically. I will be getting a PC soon for the sole purpose of running Skyrim. I am thinking that being the case I would be better off sticking with Windows and avoiding all the pitfalls of Skyrim compatability especially wanting to Mod as well.

 

Any Linux users out there care to share thier experience with Skyrim, Modding, Linux in general? I would appreciate any insight anyone has. I don't really want to continue being dependant on Microsofts OS anymore, but for a cheap machine, soley for modded Skyrim... not sure its worth building a Linux machine with learning curves, only to end up having potential and severe compatability issues with Skyrim.

 

I have already done plenty of Youtube and web search research, I find the best advice often comes from forums like these though. Thanks to any who have advice to offer!

ive been running linux for 20 years and more.

if you want to play skyrim, by all means put linux on your machine, but have it dual boot so you can boot into windows and play skyrim under windows.

that's the best option.

unless you want to play "how do i get a suboptimal experience using linux".

If you are wanting to run Linux, you can run Skyrim perfectly through Wine or Crossover (paid version of Wine).

 

I run Skyrim through Wine on Mac OSX, and when it comes to modding, it just gets you more into a manual workflow and doing it all yourself, rather than being dependant on fancy mods installers.

I don't mind, but it might get some getting used to. Just decide if you are willing to do it all yourself rather than having it done for you.

 

2 years ago I also ran a linux machine and ended up getting a better performance with skyrim than I did on the windows version. Same hardware
